Just out of curiousity, does the latest stadium proposal in clude changing the name to the Miami Marlins?? I hope not.? If the state hlpes fund the stadium, it seems like it should remain Florida.

I think he'll try again. They're so close... I doubt they'd be willing to just give up after coming so close. Let's be realistic, none of the cities that could possibly house the Marlins are nearly as financially attractive as Miami. Most of those cities are half the size of Miami (or less) and they would have to build a fan base from scratch. I understand that our fan base is small right now, but the Marlins really are on the brink of having something special here. In both the short and long run, I think it would be more costly for the Marlins to move. From a business perspective, it makes more sense to try again next year or simply cover the $30 million some other way than packing up and moving.

How is Vegas or some other city going to offer him a brand new stadium right away? At best, they would have a new stadium in 2008 if they started building right after the season. How likely is that? Those cities have to go through the same process the City of Miami and Miami-Dade county went through to approve the deal and go ahead and build a stadium. Where would they play in 2007? They have to stay in Dolphins Stadium through 2006, so the earliest they could move is 2007. They could play in a sub-par stadium in 2007 in whatever city they end up moving to, but that would really hurt the organization. What free-agent would want to sign with the Marlins knowing he will have to play in a Triple-A stadium for at least a year? Also, if the Marlins do decide to move, they will get no attendance this year or next year. I am talking about 3-4K per night for two years. Do you think they could really afford that? Not a chance in hell. Their only option would be to move to a city that already has a Major League caliber stadium and that will guarantee them a new stadium by 2008 or 2009. As far as I can tell, there isn't a single city in the US that has a Major League caliber stadium that doesn't already have a major league team.

The steroid testing is a policy that was agreed to under the collective bargaining agreement, so the Marlins would be violating that agreement by testing outside the parameters outlined by the collective bargaining agreement.
