hey, I know this has been discussed, but we all know AJ will most likely be gone at the end of the season...considering he has told the Marlins he wants to test the market. So what do you think of a trade at the deadline? Do you think Beinfest will make some moves? I would love to see Penny back in a Marlins uni, or even a Zito. As much as I love Aj and wish he could finish a Marlin, its probably unlikey with todays salaries. So I say we at least try and get someone in return rather than nothing. I realize its a gamble since he is pitching lights out right now, so I dont know. What about Juan Encarnacion? I heard rumors at the beginning of the year about the Fish trying to trade him to dump his salary. Since he is playing really well right now his stock value has risen, you think they ship him off by the deadline and get relief pitching or some prospects? They could stick niner in right.. Or maybe Niner gets shipped out? I dont know. More than anything I want Burnett to stay a Marlin though. I hate seeing our great rotation disappear year after year.

most first place teams dont trade away pieces of their roster.

its really silly.

and zito sucks now, i dont want him. i dont know what happened to him, but i dont want him with a 90 foot pole.

I supoort this thread, I love AJ but if he says he wants to test the market trade him now! I would be in favor of even bringing in a rookie with lots of upside, even if he doesn't have a great season just so we can have something for later than nothing, we took big hits already, and we shouldn't allow this, look at Pavano, we kept him and he signed with the Yankees, I know it's too soon in the season, but guys better now than never.

Let's go ahead and start throwing out some names that may benefits us now and in the future, or even in the future, who is up for grabs???

Can Zito be better suited for an NL team?

First time around through the league, perhaps. But we're trying to get to the World Series, remember? He'll face a team he's familiar with then. No way do I trade AJ for Zito. AJ's on another level.

I would wait and see. I say as long as we are in the race, hold on to Burnett. There is no reason we cannot win it all this year with him. The Marlins have not played their best ball yet. Cabrera has been average, Lowell has been in a huge slump, and Lo Duca is just now picking it up. If we ever can match our bats of last year, with our pitching of this year, we will be the best team in the Majors.

However, if we hang around the wild card area, I would be all for making a trade. A two for one maybe. A trade for a good young arm like Haracio Ramirez (not that that would ever happen).

On a side thought, I would love to see Redman back in Florida. He has pitched very well for the Pirates, a losing team. If we could swing a trade where we could bring him back to be the fifth starter, I'm all for it. Even if it means giving up a prospect.

thats what Im saying, we could trade him at the deadline for some young stud prospects or a proven pitcher. Im sure plenty of teams will be interested in trades if his name comes up, he's ace qualtiy. Im just sayin, why not invest in our future rather than lose him and get nothing in return. Its a golden opportunity to bring some talent in, but on the other hand we lose AJ for half the yr, and if we do make the postseason he would be missed badly. Either way he is gone by the end of the season. And that just stinks :banghead

Hey might be gone. It all depends on the Marlins' financial situation in the offseason. If we don't have a stadium deal in place, I think he's gone. If we do, then I think we'll be competitive in re-signing him.

If Burnett helps the Marlins win another World Series THIS year, who gives a hoot where he's pitching NEXT year. Why start thinking about '06 and beyond when Burnett is one of the aces you need to win the title in '05? If the Marlins are in contention, Burnett isn't going anywhere. Plus, why would a team like Oakland or anyone else take him if Burnett is set on testing the market? The Marlins have to ride Burnett to the playoffs and whatever happens after that, so be it.
