Posted April 29, 200519 yr Most current weather forecast calls for a rainy Philly weekend. That would be unbelievable. And distressing. Can you imagine losing the outings of our top pitchers because of a long rain delay before the 5th inning is completed? Oh, my. Can't find a positive spin for this scenario. Guess I'll send God another Marlins cap with a Note: "Let's not play two."
April 29, 200519 yr At least we return to play at Philly a few more times and can make up games then. However, it is very unlikely that we'll get all three games rained out. I think we can get all three games in.
April 29, 200519 yr Just before I came to our beloved website I checked out the weather forecast for Philly. It's looks like Friday (today) and Saturday may very well be wash-outs. Look for a doubleheader on Sunday and a makeup game down the line. I don't know how many remember but there was thread when the Marlins schedule was announced which discussed how all the early (in the season) days off might play havoc later in the season, especially here in South Florida with the potential for rainouts with the chance of rain prevalent in August/September. Last season the Marlins lost three home games due to the weather (the infamous Chicago "home" games). I don't know what the solution is although I have some ideas - add an extra day to the All-Star break for first half makeup games and another day in both August and September for universal makeup games, thus extending the season by three days, but something has to be done, not just for the Marlins but for every team in baseball. Continuing down this same road - compressing scheduling to the point of breaking has to stop.

I just hope we have a big lead in either the division or the Wild Card race come mid-August so that we can really more or less give our main guys some rest during the double header stretches (give them 1-2 games off each week).

I'm in favor of a move like that, but I highly doubt you'll see any addition of universal make-up dates when weather hasn't really been a consistent problem with washing out series...game's get rained out all the time, we're just in a flukey situation (what else is new) where we could potentially see four games postponed in four days, and as far as recent memory serves, I think that's unprecedented.
April 29, 200519 yr You wouldn't have to reduce the schedule, you'd just have to synch up the off-days. Shouldn't be too hard. Most weekday series are presided or followed by an off-day and are done so just to scatter out the day's action. Grab a few more by eliminating day-after Opening Day breaks and off-days within a week of the All-Star Game. The three-day break should be enough. I believe the Marlins had two days off within a week of the All-Star game last year when other teams were playing.
April 29, 200519 yr Looks like the rain has mostly passed Philadelphia and the weather is clearing up. Should be fine by game time.
April 29, 200519 yr That looks hopeful, Holly. But we still have about 5 hours to go before the game starts, so it's possible the storm is developing as we speak or perhaps the rain is in the eastern part of Ohio and will reach Philly at around game time. I hope that radar is right and we have no looming rain.

April 29, 200519 yr Thank goodness, it looks like we'll get some baseball tonight. :thumbup 757894 Exactly. I'm going through withdrawals.
April 29, 200519 yr I just hope theres not too much double headers this year. Last year, during the end of the season, what killed us most were the double headers. The guys were wiped out because of having to play so much.
April 29, 200519 yr OK you guys, Here is the official Phillies forecaster....KYW 3 Radar looks clean 5-day does show some rain for tonight is possible Listen to KYW NewsRadio for any official Phillies announcements.
April 29, 200519 yr Cape....i wouldnt use that site.....use http://www.wpvi.com 757930 I wouldn't use them, but the Phillies do and the Phils are the ones making the decisions tonight. :confused Edit: I am currently trying to get a system up that those who make game threads can include.
April 29, 200519 yr Cape....i wouldnt use that site.....use http://www.wpvi.com 757930 WPVI is #1 in the Delaware Valley... :thumbup "Move Closer to Your World" is a classic.
April 29, 200519 yr WPVI uses AccuWeather. I have an AccuWeather affiliation. I just set up the forecast on the game thread though. It is from the Weather Channel. Edit: I will use WPVI's radar picture.
