May 13, 200521 yr Author It seems like the team plays with a different type of tempo when Willis is on the mound he seems to be a great leader on the field almost making each player performing at a higher level. I really love watching the Marlins when he takes the mound you know you are in for a great game. Keep it up Dontrelle aka "2005 NL Cy Young Award winner" :thumbup 771494 hey hey lets not jinx anything
May 13, 200521 yr Author I dont think he will get jinxed!! This guy is great!! 771532 :banghead
May 13, 200521 yr Dude, didn't you learn anything from reading this thread? You don't talk about the Chicago White Sox in the Florida Marlins forum unless the thread has to do with the White Sox in some form. And if you read the thread title you'll see Dontrelle Willis' record which has nothing to do with the White Sox. So I have no clue why you're bringing up the last time the White Sox won the World Series... How's the campaign to be a mod coming? Pick up any crucial votes? I dont think he will get jinxed!! This guy is great!! Stop tempting the gods.

And I'm not 100% sure I want to be a mod anyways... But let's stick to the topic.

A lot of times new members come here and they post about the great success of one of our players and they take a guess of future good things to come. So they shouldn't be penalized for that, they're just giving their opinion. There's nothing clearly wrong with just taking a guess and saying what a player will do in the future. And also, hate to break it to you but...there really is no such thing as a jinx. If you want someone to do bad then ask god for them to do bad, but saying they will do good in the future will not cause them to do bad. And if Dontrelle happens to do bad in the future it will not be because of a fan that said he'll win the Cy Young on a message board.

I thought that this site was made out of Marlin Fans all I ever here around here is everybody putting each other down. Kinda rediculous if you ask me. Cant we just have some fun about our teams success. Not everyday your starting pitcher is 7-0 come on stop acting stupid. I am a Marlin fan and i am part of this web site i should have the right to say what ever i want about a player on the marlins without being hated on. So if we were the Devil Rays and i said hmmmm i bet we win 50 games would you be hating on me saying man dont jinx us. have fun man.
May 14, 200521 yr Marlins, you apparently haven't been following baseball for a long time, or have never played organized baseball above the tee-ball level. - Does one mention a no hitter during a no hitter (or a perfect game for that matter)? - Does one not wear a rally cap to bring their team back? - Does one not keep records of how a team does when they are in attendance? - Do players not follow routines to the letter for fear that they will screw up? - Do pitchers step on the foul line? - Do hitters not use slumpbusters? - Do teams not collectively do things to bring themselves out of a slump not relating to the game at all at a casual level (such as collectively pulling their socks up or all wearing fatigue shirts under their unis)? God does not watch over sports events. However, the jinx is very very real. If you tempt it, it will squash you.
May 14, 200521 yr Bats, they are sick. I cannot hit curveball. Straightball I hit it very much. Curveball, bats are afraid. I ask Jobu to come, take fear from bats. I offer him cigar, rum. He will come.

If you tempt it, it will squash you. 772035 Just because most people think there is such a thing as a jinx doesn't mean that there is such a thing as a jinx. Believe it or not the majority is wrong a lot of times, and this is one of them. The majority of people in this world are dumb. They don't go to college, they don't get a degree, they don't have a real job, their "Publix Packers." And whenever you're in need of help, like lets say you get hurt, you don't listen to what the majority of people say you should do, you listen to the minority, the doctors. If you look hard you will realize that even you follow the minority plenty of times. And anyways, their's a 50% chance I'm right, and there's a 50% chance you're right, so stop acting so confident, lol. You're saying that there's such thing as a jinx because most people think there is, but that means NOTHING. But anyways, to the point, I know you'll agree with me that god has the power to do ANYTHING. And so if HE can do anything, he can affect sports games, and saying something anywhere, even on a message board, will not affect baseball at all. God can affect baseball, not some stupid jinx thing. I hope you understand me.
May 15, 200521 yr No, I'm saying there is such thing as a jinx from 13 years of personal experience. Since I'm currently a sophmore in a university, that kills part of your argument. The only majority I use in my last post was pitchers and hitters at the major league level, who know more about this game than either you or I will ever wish to. Every none major league reference refers to 'one', which how the English language spells out the number 1, meaning there is only a singular amount present. My belief in the jinx comes from personal experience, watching it come into call time after time. There's just times when you hear something said and you know the jinx is coming, and then it does. Baseball is a game run completely on numbers, patterns, and the jinx, all of these controlled somehow in a way we don't understand. Besides, what's more realistic, thinking there's a jinx over baseball or thinking that the most powerful force in the universe watches over a baseball game when he has soldiers, famine, poverty, and other tribulations to oversee? Oh, and that's just on this planet. But he takes care of a baseball game instead right, rolling the ball fair instead of foul just because he wants to? God doesn't side with one team over another because no teams are evil. So saying God has any effect on baseball at all is silly when he has more important things to do. Right, Jobu?
May 15, 200521 yr Personal experience...right. So if someone says that something good is going to happen and it doesn't happen, then it's because he "jinxed it." Did you ever think that god has already decided who's going to win and who's going to lose and when someone says something's going to happen it actually has no affect on it?!?!?! Sheesh...and you obviously don't know that god can control poverty, famine, AND EVEN BASEBALL GAMES all at the same time with no trouble. You think he doesn't care about baseball games AT ALL? Baseball games can affect the world believe it or not. If a team losses then someone may be depressed and he may act differently because of it. If a certain team wins then someone may celebrate, get drunk, and engage in sexual intercourse... Baseball games affect people, and can affect the world as a result.
