From the Star-Ledger Yankees: Mondesi likes talk of Marlins Monday, July 28, 2003 BY DAN GRAZIANO Star-Ledger Staff BOSTON -- Raul Mondesi got a call from a friend of his in Miami to tell him the Miami Herald was reporting that the Yankees and the Marlins were talking about a trade that would send the right fielder to Florida. "I want to be here," Mondesi said before last night's game. "But if they're going to trade me, Miami would be good." The Yankees have been trying to trade Mondesi for weeks. Even if they can't add a big hitter such as Pittsburgh's Brian Giles to their outfield, they still might want to unload the unproductive Mondesi and give Ruben Sierra and Karim Garcia more playing time the rest of the way. One radio report out of the Phoenix area Saturday night said the Yankees and the Arizona Diamondbacks were close to a deal that would send Mondesi to Arizona for outfielder David Dellucci and right-handed reliever Brett Prinz, but officials with both teams downplayed such talk.
