July 29, 200323 yr Can you explain yourself here? I don't understand your logic behind how Cabrera can be doing well enough to benefit from being benched. He'll still have some major-league experience, and we get to keep a currently hot hitter around. If he's on the bench, he won't stay hot! You need to send him down to develope more for next year to be even better. That would be more valuable for him than being on the bench here...
July 29, 200323 yr Author Jul. 29 - The most recent of many rumors swirling about the Cardinals' outfielder has the Marlins, Pirates and Cardinals discussing a three-way deal involving Pittsburgh pitcher Jeff Suppan. The South Florida Sun-Sentinel cites sources who say the teams are talking about a deal that would send Drew to Florida, Suppan to St. Louis and a package of prospects to the Pirates. The Cardinals don't have enough prospects to get Suppan by themselves; and the Pirates can't take on Drew's salary. Enter the Marlins, who are seeking an outfield bat to bolster their run at the N.L. wild card spot. Drew also has been mentioned in possible deals with the Mariners (for Freddy Garcia), Padres (for Kevin Jarvis) and Oakland (for Kelvim Escobar or Cory Lidle, in a three-way deal with Toronto). However, other reports indicate the Cardinals are reluctant to give up on Drew, partly because they still believe he can be a star and partly because of the uncertain health of Jim Edmonds.
July 29, 200323 yr If he's on the bench, he won't stay hot! I agree - if you bench Cabrera, there's a rather large likelihood that he won't stay hot. You need to send him down to develope more for next year to be even better. That would be more valuable for him than being on the bench here... Wild Card, are you just making a statement? Or are you suggesting we do send him back to AAA Ball? I think it's the former, but I'd like to make sure... :mischief2
July 29, 200323 yr Author also this is about freddy garcia and jd drew Jul. 29 - The Mariners still are exploring a deal to send Garcia to the Cardinals for outfielder J.D. Drew, but the Seattle Times indicates the biggest hangup might be Drew's health, not Garcia's struggles. The big right-hander was lit up by the Rangers with Cardinals' VP Bob Gebhard in attendance Monday, but it is Drew's troublesome knee that might make Seattle cool to the proposed deal. he is not/nor will he ever be 100% healthy

July 29, 200323 yr Yes, send him to AAA... Oof... How can anyone in their right mind say: "Let's demote a player who drove in all 3 runs for last night's much-needed victory!" I mean, last night was practically a playoff-like situation. There was pressure to win, it wasn't just another game. I think Cabrera will handle himself extremely well in the long-run and in October. I don't understand your little pet nickname for him either (Kid Clutch) if you're supporting sending him down.

Not just send him down no matter what...
July 29, 200323 yr Author if you get a player in a trade like Rondell White or JD Drew, then Cabs must go down
July 29, 200323 yr Then this looks like it's heading toward what is becoming an almost Lee-like argument: Pull the trigger on the trade or not? But, I won't get into it! I have a feeling you can get a jist of my opinion anyway from my previous posts.
July 29, 200323 yr If we sent Down Cabrera after we say get JD Drew, would he be called up in Septmber?
July 29, 200323 yr I would guess there is as much chance of sending Willis as Cabrera down to the minors. Young players who can hit .300, 120 rbi and 30 homers, can play defense and hit in the clutch and are developing do not grow on trees. Besides, he was hitting close to .400 in the minors. What is he going to do there? Teach hitting? This kid is an all-star in the making. At least I don't think, and the manager probably agrees given that he doesn't like to change his lineup when he is winning, that an injured, semi-washed up veteran that an other team finds expandable is an improvement at LF. I couldn't, and probably wouldn't, have said it better myself. :lol :thumbup
July 29, 200323 yr I think the bench if fine leave as it is. Where we need help is in the pen. Heredia would solve that problem.
July 29, 200323 yr I talked about getting Drew last night, somebody FLAT out said " NO CARDS WONT TRADE EM"... and i stopped at that... well now look, very next day reports come outta the SUN and they say we eyeing Drew... now the only prob i have here is, Where does Miggy go, you cant send him down or put him on the bench..... so the only way to solve this is teach him how to play 1st base and trade Lee's a** and move Drew to LF that way our Offense will be even better but teh Defense at 1b wont be as good..... but thats a risk i am willing to take......

Maybe as a spot or platoon situation. Anything else and I see trouble. I believe relief pitching and the bench are places for improvement. Last I checked Cabrera has nowhere near 120 RBI's, is batting .300, or has 40 home runs. Sorry. Maybe in 3-4 years, but not now. He's batting .270 with 8 HR's.
July 29, 200323 yr ya Fut GM those were Projection Numbers i did em last night... if he played the entire year he would have hit 33 Bombs 137 RBI's and 100+ runs.... and this is guy some you say, should go back to the minors lmao... Marlino i like ya logic its just like mines.....

July 29, 200323 yr Wow, uh, yeah, look at how many ABs he has before you judge Cabrera by those numbers, FutureGM. I still don't believe that he would have those stats. He's only become much more consistent in the past 7 games. Before that, he was very erratic.
July 29, 200323 yr I still don't believe that he would have those stats. He's only become much more consistent in the past 7 games. Before that, he was very erratic. Again, you're speaking without looking at stats. Cabrera is batting . 300+ in the month of July. Let me see, that's about 20 something games...
July 29, 200323 yr Again, you're speaking without looking at stats. Cabrera is batting . 300+ in the month of July. Let me see, that's about 20 something games... Look, if he keeps going, then it's ok. But he hasn't been around enough to be sure. That's my opinion. I'm glad he's doing well right now, but there's no guarantee he'll be playing like this in August or September.

I'm glad he's doing well right now, but there's no guarantee he'll be playing like this in August or September. I think everyone agrees with you there. But it seems that he's been coming around this month. Nobody knows if it's just a hot streak or if he's showing he's for real, but that's the price you pay if you don't trade for someone. Or, it could be the reward you get for not trading for a LF. Beinfest must be torn...
July 29, 200323 yr I still don't believe that he would have those stats. He's only become much more consistent in the past 7 games. Before that, he was very erratic. Here's a 10-letter word for you: Adjustment Cabrera, IMO, is nearly done, if not completely done, with adjusting to the major leagues.
July 29, 200323 yr also this is about freddy garcia and jd drew he is not/nor will he ever be 100% healthy That's true, but if Drew was healthy then he wouldn't even be on the trading block.
July 29, 200323 yr If the Marlins did trade for Drew, I really think the logical move (although extremely controversial) would be to platoon him in right field with Encarnacion. Juan has been playing like crap ever since he missed those two games against the Braves in the beginning of July (which, coincedentally, we won 8-1 and 20-1). Such a move would likely not sit well with Juan, but we're in a serious wild card race, and if he's not being productive, then he's a liability.
