If we get JD Drew.....

Featured Replies

maybe beinfest is trying to get drew to then trade him for garcia, damn great thinking ramp!

So basically, parlay prospects to the Pirates (which would net us Drew in 3 way deal) for Freddy Garcia? I dont think we need a starter as much as we need another strong bat. Drew has big time ability, but does have health issues. But if we got Garcia, our pitching would improve immensely, even better than it already is and we would have arguably one of the better/deeper rotations in all of baseball. Very good idea, but I think we should stick with Drew, and while I am dreaming, deal Encarnacion as part of a package deal for Giles. Then we would be very, very deadly.

im kinda digging the fact Cabs is tearing up the place right now....

i mean, even Gammons said he would have a BIG 2nd half.....

i guess we shall wait and see

Why in the world Garcia? I dont know whats more tempting, the losing record on a very good team, the ERA around 6, the fact that he gives up home runs like theyre going out of style, or his 0-4 record with a 9.45 ERA in his last five starts.

woah, didnt see how bad he has been pitching..... check that, why not trade JD Drew for Jason Johnson and Kerry Ligtenberg?

just throwin stuff out there......

im just thinking Cabs may be the bat we need, but maybe he is just 'hot'

I think if we get Drew, we stick with Drew. A . 300 hitter, power, can drive in runs, and is a lefty.

I just hope it's not a mistake going to get someone, because you never know what Cabs could do in the second half...

2:1 odds say Drew only plays 1/2 of the games for his new team

HE IS MADE OF GLASS

rofl.....some rare sarcasm from Ross! i love it. :lol

Cabs isnt hot, he is good. The thing I am comfortable with right now is that while Cabs is hot, Encarnacion is almost ice-cold. This will reverse, Encarnacion is due for an offensive tear. Cabs wont continue at this pace for the rest of the season, right? :confused :D

Drew would be a huge asset to this offense. Put him at #2 or drop him down to 5/6. The guy has very good power and I think an ability to carry a team offensively. I think La Russa has not handled him well and Drew is looking to break out. Just a hunch...

Man...this has got to be so difficult for Beinfest & his gang. Getting held up at the trade deadline with 4 or 5 possible deals, all because this stubborn 20-year old kid refuses to go quietly!

Do they put their faith in the rookie to help the team race for the wild card spot, or do they roll the dice and hope a veteran bat does the trick?

Keep in mind everyone, that just because some trade is made doesn't necessarily mean the guy is going to work out. Mondesi could come in here and hit .220. Drew could arrive and stink up the place. Maybe Reggie Sanders comes over and hits 12 homers down the stretch, and maybe he hits 2.

Maybe they should just grab Sullivan and stick with what got them here. I mean this team on the field we're watching was obviously good enough to get this far, right? Who's gonna tell them they're not good enough now?

That said, I wouldn't have much of a complaint about bringing in any of these guys if it's the right package.

I think Drew would suceed here. Doubles land...

Plus, Drew has speed. Another situational stealer. He also has a good arm and glove. I think he would do very well in Florida...

I too have always liked Drew. I think this guy is not anywhere near the player he could be - and I blame that on La Russa. This guy needs to get on a team like ours to really give himself the freedom to play ball. I think he is a great fit here just like Wild Card said - the guy is a lefty with gap power and can hit lots of doubles and get some dingers too. The guy has great ability, he just has to stay healthy. And he adds to our overall talent pool which gives us more options in the future.

I do think it is a good thing, and gutsy, to keep this team as is and win. But if you have the chance to get a Drew for a couple of prospects, you have to do it.

Exactly.

I think if they're willing to trade Hart and a top prospect for Castillo, I'll take it any day. Castillo has been here for his 6 years, and is a FA. If you can get Hart, who is a decline at 2B but it won't be a significant difference, I am all for it.

if we were out of it, i would like the Hart/Castillo part.... but not now... that is pretty dumb

Not at all... It's a downgrade at second, but one that isn't to significant, and one that really won't change how many wins and losses are put on the board.

And again, it also gives you a second baseman for the next 5 1/2 years instead of the next 1/2 a year.
