Will the Marlins make a move

Who's next? Jim Brower? Ron Villone?....Eddie Guardado? or...

Brad Lidge?

If the Marlins are going to make there bullpen the top priority this summer, then go after the best like you did in 03'

if a starter is the priority then make a move right b/c Joe Kennedy appears to heading to Oakland or are they waiting for Zach Day to come back off the DL. I'd go for a Ryan Church/ Zach Day for Juan Encaracion

IMO a deal is close for who? that's the fun part :D

I dunno why everyone wants to trade Encarnacion he has proven himself worth while.

Not when he is playing half ass baseball in the outfield.

Sure Juan made his first two errors last night....his first two errors of the season. Then he redeemed himself with a nice grab in foul territory where he fell over the fence.

It only appears Juan is traveling at half speed in RF because he gets such a good jump, takes excellent routes to the ball and has great speed with his long strides.

I'm a big fan of Lidge, but considering the amount of prospects we'd need to give up to get it done, I don't think it would be worth it. We should be focused on getting another solid starter to replace Leiter, like Mark Redman. This will help solve our bullpen problem because most of the time our pitchers will be able to make it past the 6th. Mota and Jones will be a fine 8th and 9th combination, and once Alfonseca comes back it'll be one of the best pens in the majors.

I think the next deal is a big one, but will only happen if the offense, Mota or Leiter do not show improvement. Otherwise, the team will ride it out with the 25 and minor leaguers they have now.

Those are the first two errors charged. His misplays and half-assed effort have cost us runs and ballgames, and they never get scored an error because he never gets near the ball. The game in Atlanta against Hudson is a prime example. He blew two in that game that cost us several runs.

Instead of all this talk about sending players down, replacing coaches, making moves, trades......wouldn't it be better to just root for the team that you have. A tweak or 2 to the bullpen is one thing, but why the need for anything more. A lot of you need to learn patience. Forget about what I and some others on the board have to say. Doesn't it make you question yourself when people like Peter Gammons and Buster Olney think that the Marlins, as they are now, are the team to beat in the NL East. I might be wrong, but I think Gammons opinion is a better informed one than anyone on this board. If there was no such thing as "moves" allowed, would you switch entire teams and coaching with any other team in the East? Why not just sit back, root for the players we have to come around, and enjoy the ride. Unless somebody gets hurt, any talk of a "move" is premature, just like many of the posters on this board.

I don't think its premature conversation. The deals have been reported in the print media about the Marlins wanting to get another arm. Gammons said yesterday he feels whoever one of this teams in this division makes a big trade will win this division. Just b/c your good enough to win doesn't mean you don't need something to jump start this talent team. In 97' in Daulton, in 03' it was Urbina, so its not premature to say or talk about a trade to jump start this talent team

In 2003, Gammons and everyone on Baseball Tonight kept picking anyone but the Marlins to be the wild card team. They don't watch the team day to day, so they're going largely on rumors, their limited exposure to the team, and their own bias.

If we loose Juan Encarnacion the whole team will go down. Beside from Cabrera and Delgado, Juan has been hitting when needed and has shown much imporvment. If it wasn't for him we would have lost many ballgames. His 35+ RBI's is hard to replace in this team. If we were going to loose him Mike Lowell, Pierre, Duke will have to step it up another notch. :shifty

I agree, half the fun is proposing trades. It makes the Hot Stove fun during the winter. What would the Nats be getting in your trade? Church is looking like he might be a good ballplayer, so we might have to give them more than Enc for him and Day.

I don't want to trade Juan, but its a fact that Juan is the odd man out. WHY? money there not going to trade Niner or Lowell. And if your going to take on another contract one from this team needs to go. Who is not in the Marlins long term plans? Juan and he's the one with the most trade value right now

Any way you put it, just one catch does not fully redeem someone for 2 errors.

Im all for that trade, that'll be awesome and it gets Encarnacion's lazy ass of the team.

Why would Washington deal Church?

802724

b/c they want Juan Encarancion to get Preston Wilson

803236

Why would the Rockies want Encarnacion?

Why would Washington deal Church?

I think they will take anyone so they could dump the Preston Wilson contract. HOWEVER I don't think Church is going anywhere. When you are in first place and just won 7 in a row you don't start messing with things. And Church is a BIG part of the winning.

too many holes on this team to go out and trade valuable prospects at this time. The talent is there, our guys need to perform.

In addition, there is no stadium deal yet. so I imagine some of those prospect will be playing on 2006.

Bingo. Pieces are there, its comes down to 3 things:

1) Execution.

2) Execution.

3) Execution.

That's my point exactly. He said the Rockies want Enc to get the Wilson deal done, when that just doesn't make much sense. They don't need the marlins to get involved to get that deal done.

I wouldnt mind seeing them play dillon a bit more. The kid came up and preformed off the bat. since then he has only seen limited bats (like 12 I think, please correct me if I am wrong). He has a good pop to his bat and would perhaps be useful to get out there some to energize the team. Youth (even if 29 he is young as a guy in the majors), is always a plus to get the vets going.

I imagine the guy from Atlanta doesn't need to point this out to you locals but today's sun-sentinel had some trade rumors that we're talking about. Jorge Julio (Baltimore 3.09 ERA, 1.06 WHIP :D ), Paul Quantrill (NY 7.66 ERA, 1.79 WHIP :confused ) and the great Ryan Drese (Oklahoma Redhawks  6.46 ERA, 1.72 WHIP)

fran your right I was thinking of the original deal the three-way( but that was with Graves) when in fact the writer that wrote the rumor was just saying the Nats had the opition of P-Funk or Juan

As far Ryan Church goes he name came up as pieces to trade wheather it was Preston or Juan. I'm sure the Marlins would have throw in someone like Aguila to complete the deal.
