June 15, 200521 yr They plan to have it up by 2009. I could imagine they're going to keep their RF wall short to help out their lefties. They're building it right next to their current ballpark--so Yankee Stadium will still be seen a lot by all the Yankee fans when they go to games. However, the new park can only seat a few thousand less than their current ballpark. The only thing that is stopping them at this point is approval from the state Legislature and City Council. Anyways, atleast their spending some of their money on their stadium and not on players...maybe that will lessen the talent of their players...but I don't think so, they'll never run out of money.
June 15, 200521 yr The stadium is going to look a lot like it did before they did the renovations in the 70's.
June 15, 200521 yr Probably be turned into a museum 811436 I hope thats what they do......
June 15, 200521 yr Did they say anything about what there going to do with old yankee stadium? 811434 No, not yet. But not only is this new stadium a sure thing yet, but even if it gets done, it's gonna take 4 years. So I don't think they're thinking about that just yet. But I suspect they will make some use of all the great features in the ballpark. They're probably going to do something special for the fans and just let them check out the ballpark. It's not like were not going to be able to see Yankee Stadium ever again.
June 16, 200521 yr The Yankees will be responsible for the ongoing maintenance of Yankee Stadium, and George said that he wanted to stay in the Bronx to pay dues for the people who have always supported the team. The new ballpark will include dozens of luxury suites and wider concourses. The Monument Park will be relocated to the New Yankee Stadium.
June 16, 200521 yr All the Yankees are happy about the future new stadium. Team Welcomes New Yankee Stadium
June 16, 200521 yr just saw on sports center, that there has been 100 world series games in Yankee stadium. How sweet would it be if they never get to the world series again untill the new stadium or never get to the series again ever. That would make the final world series game in Yankee Josh becketts win. How sweet it is!
June 16, 200521 yr I don't get why the Yankees need to leave Yankee stadium. The new stadium has to be amazing for this move to happen.

The new stadium has to be amazing for this move to happen. 811861 The reason for the new stadium is to just preserve all the good that has happened in the old Yankee Stadium...atleast supposedly...

The reason is the stadium is old. There aren't nearly as many luxury boxes as other stadiums have (thats the bread and butter for the team), the concourses are narrow and you can't see play on the field and compared to the beautiful new stadiums that have been built in the last 10 years, the Yanks feel Yankee Stadium has had it's time.
June 16, 200521 yr It's still a bad idea for them to leave Yankee Stadium, regardless of how un-modern it is. You don't see the Cubs move out of dilapidated Wrigley.

I think they should stay. If the Red Sox can manage in Fenway, the Yanks can manage in their current diggs.
June 16, 200521 yr One thing about current Yankee stadium is the horrible area it is and how while it is still in the same proximity, they will take steps to put in parks and clean it up. Ive been to 3 games there and everyone walking out to the parking you wondered if you were about to be knifed.

Nah, I was the least of their worries as two of the games were against the Mets and the other was against the Orioles....
June 17, 200521 yr NOTE: That baseball field across the street is what will be left of Yankee Stadium. I may not like the idea of replacing Yankee Stadium but I have to admit that's one bitchin' ballpark. Open air stadiums are SOOOOOOOO much nicer than retractable roof parks. How much I'd rather have an open air ballpark down here. Damn weather.
June 17, 200521 yr Author I like new....bring it on! Now when will the Cubs do something with Wrigley? They could do a renovation ala what the Bears did Soldier Field.

Wrigley can stay how it is (except for a few renovations inside from what I've heard).

Because you obviously aren't aware that you'll never get knifed until you get near the Cross-Bronx Expressway. Duh. P.S.- HOK, who has created Camden Yards and Safeco, has said that this will without a doubt be the crowned jewel in all of the sporting complexes ever created.
