Trade talk and will the Marlins join the party?

Featured Replies

First off, Brian Giles and Jason Kendall could still be trade by the deadline. The Padres are offering for LHP Oliver Perez and OF Xaiver Nady but the Pirates want the farm 3B Sean Burroughs, RHP Jake Peavy and another top prospect. O yeah and $$$.

Now the Marlins

JD Drew is still alive but its on life support. The Marlins as of last night wanted to just deal with the Cards. Offering Justin Wayne, V.Nunez and another prospect(believe to Levinski). The Cards want a veteran. There thinking is if they take a guy Wayne. They might a well bring up RHP Jimmy Journell(top pitching prospect in the minors). Also its believe now with Kevin Appier being released by the Angels. The Cards will make a play for him.

Who will be trade by the Marlins?

Its believe that Vlad Nunez WILL BE trade before the deadline today. For what? is the question. Names being metioned RHP Mike Dejean, LHP Felix"the cat" Heredia and LHP Joey Eischen. Almanza could be trade for a left-handed bat off the bench. Matt Stairs?? The Almanza being dealt would come off only if the Marlins can get Heredia or Eischen. Prospect that could be moved Justin Wayne, Abe Nunez, Grilli, SS/2B Josh Wilson are a couple of names being metioned. It should interesting and fun. I'll try to update you guys throughout the day :thumbup

ed, i look forward to your posts more than anyone, thanks buddy, matt stairs would be a GREAT move, provides insurance, i like him, and ya gotta love el gato flaco, dont know about Eischen stats this year, he with montreal??? he's got some nasty breaking pitch i think right?, anyone know?

and........i cant believe we could get a bat off the bench for almanza.......stairs for almanza would be awesome! of course we'd have to bring heredia or eischen first.........this is gonna be an exciting day!

These are Eischen's stats....

We don't need another bat bullpen help is the most needed...A perfect replacement for Almanza is Felix"El Gato Flaco"Heredia. If would be cool to see a 97' World Series Marlin back in teal. Besides he is a great long relief pitcher...I hope Larrry gets him.

I love Eischen, bring him on. And bring on EL GATO FLACO!!!!! And bring back Joe Angel just for times that he is in the game :thumbup

Wish I could see the "BBTN Trade Deadline Special".

But I have a dentist oppointment. :(

"According to major league sources, the St. Louis Cardinals are unlikely to part with Drew in any deal, even if it brought them Pittsburgh right-hander Jeff Suppan. The Marlins had hoped to obtain Drew, one of the game's top young talents, in exchange for a package of prospects that would go to the Pirates.

Cardinals manager Tony LaRussa, who has a strong say in personnel moves, told writers before Wednesday's game in Montreal he hoped Drew would not be traded."

Well maybe cardinals are not that stupid to trade Drew for three prospect.

Rumors out Toronto are saying the Cards want RHP Kelvim Escobar and Drew could be part of the deal BUT they don't want Drew and would have another team take Drew. Just another opiton for the team to get Drew. Some low cost pitchers the Cards might end up with if they can't get Escobar or Suppan...John Thomson or Jeremi Gonzalez(I like alot)

hopefully we could acquire drew.

but when does this guys contract end and how much does he make a year?

I still think we should talk to the Orioles about Lightenberg. I dont think we would have to give up much for him, and he would be another fireballer in the pen. He is a righty though...but a flyball pitcher it seems and has a very good ERA (3.13 with 28K/8BB in 37.1IP).

well even if we do not acquire a lefty in the pen. urbina still kills lefty so he could be classified as a southpaw and a righty pitcher.

Flyball pitchers = risky business

Escobar was a guy that the BJays wanted to make more marketable to move - so they made him a starter. Or at least, that is what I read. I dont know what the BJays would want for him, but it seems that he could be had relatively cheap if the above sentiment is correct. They may ship us Drew for a couple of major league ready prospects, like Neal, Wayne, maybe throw in a Levinski. I dont know if this deal is going to happen, it seems a lot has changed in the Cards thinking the last 24-48 hours. But Suppan beating them the other day I am sure impressed them, so we could still see that deal made and get Drew from the Pirates.

This is good. I dont mind at all if we stayed pat, in fact, I think it would be safer to do so. Drew is a risk, a good risk though. The guy is super-talented, but does have injury problems including his knee which I just figured out. But he could turn the corner, the guy is still young, only 27.

drew was such a badass coming out of college. when i lived in jacksonville the college teami liked was FSU (since tallahasee was 2 hours away) he was my favorite player the years he played there. j.d. drew could stillbe a badass that could easily post 30-100 if heis healhy a whole season

Trade Almanza and Vlad Nunez for Dave O'Brien and Joe Angel.

Two Thumbs Up

From Rumor Central Today on ESPN Insider

Jul. 31 - Add New York to the list of teams pressing the Cardinals about the availability of Drew, whom St. Louis manager Tony La Russa reportedly has said he does not want traded.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports New York has offered Jeff Weaver for Drew and Brett Tomko, with Tomko thrown in mostly to offset the impact of Weaver's salary on the Cardinals' payroll. However, the paper indicated St. Louis is unlikely to bite on that deal, especially when they have so many others from which to choose.

The rumored deals: Three-way with Florida and Pittsburgh for Jeff Suppan; three-way with Oakland and Toronto for Kelvim Escobar; four-way with Oakland, Toronto and Boston to bring Boston's Casey Fossum and another pitcher to St. Louis; straight up with Seattle for Freddy Garcia; straight up with Florida for a starting pitcher and all-star second baseman Luis Castillo, with Drew and second baseman Bo Hart going to Florida; straight up with San Diego for Kevin Jarvis.

The Reds/Dodgers/ RedSox in a three-way deal?

the teams have discussed a deal that would land current Dodgers left-hander Odalis Perez in Boston, with Cincinnati third baseman Aaron Boone heading to Los Angeles. The hang-up may be Boston's reluctance to part with one or two top prospects, believed to be Freddy Sanchez and Kevin Youkilis (who would end up in Cincinnati). The Boston Herald reporting this rumor.

Man I wish the Marlins had a hitter to give-up to get a Odalis Perez.

Did the FO say Castillo would not be traded? The only one I know they did that with was Lowell.

I wonder, what about Castillo and Bump for Drew and Hart. We probably would have to give up Pavano, or even Penny, but if we supplied Bump and say, Wayne/Grilli and even V Nunez, that may be good enought. If we did have to give up a starter, I think it would get a little harder for us to keep up our climb. Right now, I am pretty confident with all of our starters, and until Spoon gets back, our bullpen is going to be somewhat overworked. I dont think that trading Castillo right now would be feasible, and certainly would leave us with a hole. Would be a good deal for the offseason though...
