July 31, 200323 yr I just want to take this opportunity to tip my cap to the FO and Beinfest, Loria, etc. (Yeah, I know that is practically the FO, but stick with me here...). I think that the progress this team, this organization, has made within only a year is amazing. Sure we have a long way to go - a new ballpark, better revenue, better attendance - but we have come a long way. This team is right where it needs to be to achieve those other, long term objectives. The future is bright with all the talent we have loaded up on. Benifest and Co. have certainly 'emptied the tub and filled it with (their) own bath water'. Just look at the contributions from Willis, Cabrera, Bump. We still wait for Stokes, Bautista, Hutchinson, Levinski, etc. And speaking of where we are, I think it took ballz to make a move - and ballz to not make a move. Either way is a calculated risk. But not making a move I think is much more appealing for making this organization develop pride for itself. They can win and do it from within. The guys on this team have been here from the beginning, except for Urbina - but he has stated we dont need anything else, that we got everything we need here. No Drew, no Giles, no Sullivan. But I am actually pretty pleased just to be in the hunt for those kind of players, and happier that we are keeping this team together despite what may have made more long term sense. I applaud you Marlins...
July 31, 200323 yr Amen Johnny. We've gotten this far by building from within, we can continue winning by continuing to build from within. In September we can bring Stratton up along with the other prospects and get the extra push we need.

July 31, 200323 yr Good Stuff. I agree. Would have liked DeJean or another veteran reliever, or a veteran bench OF capable of all 3 OF positions and first base to give our starters occasional breaks. Also wanted to trade Almanza and Vlad Nunez for Dave O'Brien and Joe Angel. What the heck. We have the team that can make it. Well Done, FO.

July 31, 200323 yr Yea but we still made deals to get them. Yeah, but they came from our minor league system and learned to play baseball with us. The Yankees gave up on Lowell, traded him to us, and he learned his swing in our system, not the Yankees system.

Let's hope to go 7 for 7 when those guys come up. Stokes will be great, and there's no reason in my mind to believe otherwise. Bautista should also be very good. Hutchinson and Levinski are questionable, but have HUGE upsides and talent.
