Posted June 30, 200519 yr Marlins activate Beckett to start vs. Braves By JOE CAPOZZI Palm Beach Post Staff Writer Thursday, June 30, 2005 MIAMI GARDENS - Marlins right-hander Josh Beckett was activated from the disabled list today and will start tonight against the Atlanta Braves. Beckett will be making his first start since June 14. He left that game because of a blister on his right middle finger and went on the disabled list the next day. It was the sixth time in his career he has gone on the DL because of blister-related problems on the same finger. Beckett (7-5, 3.35 ERA) has thrown without pain in recent bullpen sessions and said he's ready to go. If Beckett had not been named to start, rookie left-hander Scott Olsen would have started. He won his debut against Tampa Bay on Saturday.
June 30, 200519 yr *adjusts fantasy lineup* 833603 gotta love being a fantasy baseball GM it rocks...
June 30, 200519 yr So what happens with Olsen now? Does he pitch tomorrow or take Lieters spot? 833692 I hope he takes Leiter's spot. Leiter needs to be put in the bullpen for the Marlins sake and for his sake as well. Did you hear the fans booing him as he came out of the game in the 5th inning yesterday?
June 30, 200519 yr Yes, let Olsen take Leiter's spot. There is no way he can be any worse than Leiter.
June 30, 200519 yr Author I don't think there's any benefit whatsoever in keeping Leiter around at all. 833740 I think you'd probably be hardpressed to find an argument here.
June 30, 200519 yr I don't think there's any benefit whatsoever in keeping Leiter around at all. 833740 He was supposedly going to teach the younger guys how to approach their game preparations, and how to approach hitters. Looks like Dontrelle has learned all he needs to know. The same could be said for Josh and AJ. And what is he teaching them? To put the leadoff hitting on base every other inning by giving them a free pass, and once you get to the big bats you throw meatballs down the middle of the plate? I tend to agree. I don't see where Al is doing much other than sapping energy from the rest of the guys. Does anybody have the feeling we are going to win the game each time Al goes to the mound? Or is it more the exact opposite?
June 30, 200519 yr According to Roxy and DVH -- Riedling was optioned to AAA Albuquerque to make room for Beckett.
