So, Riedling gets demoted, and he cries about it. Sorry, but 18 ERs and 30 hits in 23 IP is not exactly getting it done. Yes, and Resop would be an improvement at that point.

Ok, so maybe that last point was a bit exagerrated, but Resop had 7 BB in what, 60+IP? Um, that isnt by accident.

But in the article by the Palm Beach Post, there is a quote from an unnamed player that called the Marlins a 'bootleg organization'. Anyone care to speculate who that might be? I would like to send their a$$ away, too.

AJ?

Woah, Jonny you're back. Welcome...

Can you post the article that this was said in?

first of all, welcome back jonnylons, long time no see.

secondly, what does that even mean? An org run on the cheap or something?

But Riedling never envisioned his Marlins' stint taking a detour through Albuquerque, N.M. He visibly was shaken Thursday after he arrived at Dolphins Stadium and was told he was being optioned to Florida's Class AAA team.

"I don't want to be back here,'' he said, holding back tears, before declining to comment further.

wow.... I was really pulling for the guy, & I hope he makes it back with the team soon, but goodness man can you blame them for sending you down? I feel bad for the guy but you're an adult. Go down there, work out some things and get your asss back up here.

It was in a Palm Beach Post article.

Riedling does not want to come back

riday, July 01, 2005

MIAMI GARDENS ? Right-hander John Riedling signed with the Marlins in January because he lives in Wellington and has family in South Florida.

But Riedling never envisioned his Marlins' stint taking a detour through Albuquerque, N.M. He visibly was shaken Thursday after he arrived at Dolphins Stadium and was told he was being optioned to Florida's Class

"I don't want to be back here,'' he said, holding back tears, before declining to comment further.

Riedling (4-1, 7.04) led the bullpen in wins. Less than a day earlier, he was celebrating his latest win in the clubhouse after Florida's 6-5 victory in 13 innings.

Riedling, who graduated from Ely High School in Pompano Beach, was optioned to make room for right-hander Josh Beckett, who was activated from the disabled list.

"He hasn't pitched that poorly for us but he can pitch better than he has pitched for us,'' said bench coach Harry Dunlop, who is filling in for Jack McKeon, who left the team Wednesday and Thursday to attend a funeral.

"He had an option and they figured by him going down and getting more steady work it would help him get a little bit sharper than he has been.''

Riedling pitched for McKeon in Cincinnati. Dunlop said McKeon was consulted before the decision was made.

Some Marlins players privately questioned why the team demoted Riedling and why they didn't tell him after Wednesday's game.

The other option was to send down rookie right-hander Chris Resop, who allowed four runs in one inning Wednesday in his major-league debut.

"This is a bootleg organization,'' one player said.

Sheffield doubtful: Three Marlins sources confirmed that the team talked briefly about a trade proposal that would send right-hander A.J. Burnett and outfielder Juan Encarnacion to the Yankees for Gary Sheffield.

But those sources said no formal proposal has been made by either team nor did they expect one to be made.

Some Marlins players said they preferred no such deal after Sheffield, reacting to a proposed trade that would send him to the Mets, hinted in comments to New York media that he might be a disruption to his new team.

New A.J.? Right-hander A.J. Burnett will do something tonight that he hasn't done in more than two years: He will make his next start following a shutout.

Burnett's shutout of Tampa Bay on Sunday was his first complete game since August 2002. After that game, he woke up with a sore elbow that landed him on the disabled list and eventually led to surgery.

"My arm feels great,'' Burnett said. "No comparison to what it usually does.''

The reason? Burnett threw 44 changeups in his last start, the most he used in his career, instead of relying on his fastball.

"I'll probably stick to the same game plan,'' he said about tonight's start against the New York Mets.

McKeon returns: McKeon, who will rejoin the team tonight in New York, watched the first three innings and last few innings of Florida's 6-5 win Wednesday night, in between attending the wake for his brother-in-law.

"He said, God, it's harder watching it on TV than it is sitting in the dugout,'' said Dunlop, who spoke with McKeon on Thursday.

No more troy: The movie Troy's run on the DVD player at Dontrelle Willis' locker has ended.

Willis said he will stop watching the movie since he lost Tuesday. Willis, who is 12-3, has watched the movie before most of his 16 starts this season.

Word of his habit reached Hollywood, where Troy director Wolfgang Peterson sent Willis an autographed copy of the film

"It was good while it lasted,'' he said. "I've got to find a new one.'

Really a dumb comment. Riedling has sucked and deserved to be sent down. Give Resop a few more chances and if he fails Riedling can come back.

As for the bootleg thing. Probably made up.

Here it is guys - pull a Riedling and read and weep... :shifty

And guys, thanks for the welcome back. :thumbup

First of all, what does that mean?

Second, i'm tired of all these guys complaining about getting sent down when they aren't performing well. What exactly does Riedling expect the team to do? He has an ERA over 7!! If you don't want to get sent to AAA, how about pitching better?

Dang it Riedling. "I don't want to be back here." He was holding back tears? I guess he must be a really big family man or something. I respect that, but don't get mad at the team. He was probably the best option to send down to the 'Topes.

I'll take Lowell for 500, Alex

nice one felo but I think you should give him the Jordie mask from star trek :)

:geek :super

I bet there isn't one of who didn't cry when you struck out four times in a game or lost one when you booted a ball and your teammates blamed you for the loss, missed a big hoop at the last second, fumbled the ball on the two yard line, or whatever challenged your perception of yourself and made you feel like s*** about yourself and life in general.

If it hasn't you haven't lived.

I think we can give the guy a break and understand that the last year been difficult for him. In the moment, people say things they don't mean, or wished they hadn't said, and thinking how it had to feel to go home and tell his wife and kids (in so many words) he was a failure (because that's how most normal people feel when they get news like this) and was being shipped a thousand miles away had to be an extremely difficult moment to confront.

Forgive his outburst and hope he returns a new man, and can contribute down the line.

I am not so much miffed about that as I am about the 'bootleg' comment. I want to find out who the hell said it and call them out on it. I want to know why they feel that way about this organization and if there is any merit to it. Hell, whoever said it could have just been saying it to give comfort to Riedling Rainbow (nice, by the way IknowFeli...).

Like Jack says, if you have something to say, put your name on it.

What exactly is a "bootleg organization"? Is that such a bad thing? I am trying to turn bootleg into baseball terms and I can't figure out what message was intended by that remark.

Yeah, I am putting my money on AJ. Sour little b$&ch...

I hate the anonymous player thing, these guys need to let their name be printed if they are going to say things like that.
