for awhile?

First off before I'm hit with all the are you crazy talk, look at his stats compared to Olsen in Carolina, if you take his Jupiter/Carolina stats combined they're very simliar. Remember this is kid who is older than Olsen and being a former college player the maturity is there. Another thing to remember the biggest jump(adjustment) for a pitcher is not going from AA to the Majors, its going from A to AA....its not out the question

last start for Vargas in Carolina

:whistle

I love Vargas, but I really would rather not take another chance on screwing up one of our top prospects.

He has been pretty tough but if he goes to the pen I am not so certain that he that type of pitcher....look at Kensing and Bazardo and what happened to them trying to convert them from starters to the bullpen.....not a good thing...if they bring him to spot start for Josh so be it....this team is going to look at the future and bring up the young to start all over...imagine this team in a few years...another shot at the world series.....great pitching...great speed...great hitters and good defense...and best of all very hungry players...

If there is ever a short rest situation I would say go for it, sorta like what the Tigs did with Verlander. Verlander grew up a lot facing the Indians on Monday.

I don't know, I don't think it would turn out well. Plus, why not give Jason Johnson the call?

I don't want to bring up any more of our top prospects to the majors so soon. We likely destroyed Yorman Bazardo's confidence earlier this year, and I'm sure Logan Kensing and Chris Resop aren't feeling much better. Messenger was shelled in most of his outings, but he's older.

Of all the prospects we have called up this year, only Scott Olsen has had any positive impact.

I don't think you'll screw him up, he's a college pitcher with alot of maturity. He's meet every challenge present to him at every level. I really think his next start will be veeerrry important

I just think it's too much too fast. A couple weeks ago the kid was pitching in single-A ball.

Josh Johnson, and he is in the mold of Brad Penny...even went to the same highschool in Oklahoma(Broken Arrow). He will be fun to watch when he finally gets the call up, and his stats at AA Carolina were great for a while, but have seen a slight drop off as of late.

I guess if we would have drafted Chad Cordero two years he'd still be in the minors

Chad Cordero is a reliever, and was a reliever in college. That's a totally different thing. If we're going to bring Vargas up to pitch in the pen he could probably handle it. But if we're going to expect him to pitch 5-6 solid innings for us, that is a lot to ask.

and he's been scuffling latelyWhoops. Don't know where I got Jason from (probably from the title lol)

How bad is the scuffing?

Resop's a reliever. Vargas is a starter. We don't need Vargas up here to be a reliever. It wouldn't help us or him. If we call him up to be a starter, that's a lot to ask of a guy who has only made 3 starts above A ball.

innings are innings no matter when you have them and how often.....Vargas doesnt get extra points cause he's a starter while Resop's don't count as much....

Again your forgetting this kid is older than Olsen and a former college pitcher. With alot more innings(college included) than Olsen since HS. Also with a lower ERA in his minor league career than Olsen and a higher K's to BB ratio

So you're telling me it's just as easy to throw 6-7 innings a game as it is 1 inning a game?
