I could see full well knocking any position player for not giving all out effort on all plays, I do it because that is plain and simple what they are paid to do. But AJ's role on the team is to pitch, not to stretch a double into a triple risking an injury. July 7, 200520 yr What are the chances that AJ is going to get hurt RUNNING? Correct me if I am wrong, but most athletes tend to run.Let me guess, a slide would strain his hamstring or something..give me a break..not much of an athlete at all if you are thinking about the chances of him getting hurt while running. For that reason I love watching the D-train go all out..even though he "risks" injury (just like all the other players..)
July 7, 200520 yr I don't know, just ask Derek Jeter (who actually is supposed to know how to slide) who separated his shoulder and missed 2 months. That injury would be MUCH worse for a pitcher, because he has to use his shoulder 100+ times every fifth day. Couple this with a pitcher who has already had to have major reconstructive surgery on his arm, a player who isn't used to sliding at all (when was the last time he slid anywhere? He's gone in standing both times he's tripled), and you have some selfish and overzealous fans who have to find reasons to get angry for no f***ing reason.
