Who should be the Most Frustrated

Truly the NL East fans have had tough seasons but whose been the toughest so far and whose had the most to be angry about. Here's each of their cases:

Phillies: This team had high expectations this year and was expected to contend. They added a top of the line pitcher in Lieber to a team that already had the talent to compete. Jim Thome has had a woeful season and their heralded prospect Ryan Howard just got called up. They made two deals....each of which can be considered a bust.....Polanco has become a stud for the Tigers and Byrd has become a helpful piece to the 1st place Nats. The team has a new stadium and a fanbase that's title starved. They also have an idiot manager when they could have hired Leyland. Finally, the fans have been called idiots multiple times by the likes of Kenny Lofton and even Manager Manuel who said "stick your nose out of our business."

Mets: This team despite what the fans on sports radio said signed the two top FA's in the market in Pedro and Carlos Beltran. One has captivated the city with his great season while the other has woefully underperformed. The team's lineup could be considered the best in the division but their bullpen like all the others has come up short. They started the season swept in Cincinnati with Looper blowing two of the games. In the bright lights of NYC and with the Yankees struggling, this team had a chance to take over but is coming up short. The Mets think their buyers but their fans are praying for a sell-off.

Marlins: This team made a huge splash in the offseason and solidified an important need with Carlos Delgado. Two of the important Marlins have struggled mightily in a lineup that is extremely potent.....Lowell and Pierre are two sparkplugs that havent been lit too much this season. Their other offseason splash has served more gopherballs then wins to the home crowd and has not been able to capture the magic that he had in 1997. Important prospects are blocked by lazy talent and the fans are not happy. Problem is their fanbase pales in comparison with the others in the division. Their stud pitching staff has begun to take shape and Dontrelle Willis has had a Cy Young first half. Problem is that the majority of their first half was spent at home yet they are in third place.

There are your cases....Each team has been predicted to win the division somewhere before the season started. Place your vote and discuss.....

Definitely the Marlins. They were supposed to be fielding the best team in their history.

To me the 1997 team still is better then this team by a longshot.....

I really wish you guys would put your Marlins hats aside....sure we had a lot of expectations for this season but stop being biased and look at it thru the eyes of the mets and Phillies fans........I havent voted yet but i can say it won't be the Marlins i vote for.....I'm frustrated as hell with this team but look at the talent on the other two squads and honestly say they didnt expect to contend.

It's unbelievable that the Marlins are running away with this poll. Like FishFan said, put your Marlins hats aside and look objectively. The Mets signed the two biggest free agents this past offseason, and to a TON of money. Pedro is arguably the best pitcher in the NL right now, Floyd is having a tremendous year, and other than that their team is crapping all over themselves. The Mets fans have much more of a reason to be frustrated than we do.

Everyone was picking us to be a sure thing to win the WS, even ESPN picked us to win it all. Of the Phillies, Mets and Marlins, the Marlins have been the most disappointing thus far.

I can tell you at least three publications to pick the Mets and one that picked the Phillies to win too....

ok....of the three......

Lineup edge goes to Mets and Marlins.....Mets have Reyes, Floyd, Beltran, Wright, Piazza and we know who the Marlins have.....Reyes, Beltran and Piazza are woefully underperforming vs. Pierre and Lowell underperforming.

Rotation edge goes to Marlins although their ace is only second best behind pedro....Brett Myers is going to be a great pitcher and could surpass Beckett by the end of their careers.

Bullpens edge go to the Phillies who can throw Urbina, Madson, Wagner and that's more then the other two teams can say....

The Phillies, with virtually the same team, underachieved last year as well. So to say that they were supposed to have some kind of huge increase despite being inactive team improvement wise, well that's not happening. Plus they've had several injuries to hurt them.

It's always been know the Mets have a horrible pen. It was known Glavine wasn't going to give them much. It wasn't known Beltran wouldn't do so hot, but then again Floyd is on fire, and others on the team like Wright are developing nicely. However that pen is too much of a crutch and it's buckled them, like expected. Also, their additions in the offseason were to a team that wasn't a contender - most Mets fans will tell you this wasn't the year they were supposed to making a huge run, that it was something similar to the Orioles where they would rebuild through free agency over the course of 2-3 big splashes.

The Marlins, however, have had no major injuries to say hey this is why we're doing poorly. They added significant fire power to a team that was already a major contender deep into the pennant chase last season. The Big Three, for the most part, have been healthy and have been delivering. The closer position is dominant, though not the person expected. The pen has been rather solid for the majority of the year. Everyone in the offense, except of course the third baseman and the center fielder who has recently come around, is producing around or above their normal levels. Statistically, the Marlins have among the best offenses and pitching staffs in baseball. Yet we stand just three games above .500, 7 back of the Nationals and falling farther from the Wild Card spot.

Why, again, should the Mets or Phils be more disappointed?

I don't get why everyone thinks Mets fans didnt think were going to make a run this year....You don't sign two FA's like Pedro and Beltran and just go .500......This team and these fans expected at least an NL East Title and they can't deny that.

They made free agent splashes to get back to respectability.....if by some miracle they are in it during the July open market, then they would keep adding. But they made the moves to get names, and now this offseason and the offseason prior to the 2007 season is where they will make the most noise, along with the natural progression of Wright and Reyes.

I dont if this hurts or helps but...do you realize that the 2005 Marlins are, in many ways, actually better than the 2003 Marlins overall?

...So whats going on?

...we shouldnt even need "luck" or "Marlins Magic"...we have the pure talent to win it all...but we cant piece it together...thats frustration...
