I posted this poll on the Marlins board and the Marlins for some reason are running away with it....this is for the rest of baseball....Here's the cases for each:

 

Yankees: No explanation needed....This team is woefully underperforming and their payroll could take care of like 10 teams.

 

Cubs: Injuries....Injuries....Injuries....Their rotation is possibly more heralded then the Marlins and their bullpen is absolutely dreadful yet they were expected to succeed with Nomar in the lineup....who hasnt played much at all.

 

Reds: This team just made their fans pay for their new park while they go out and sign the two worst FA's out there. Eric Milton and Ramon Ortiz have served more BP then Al Leiter has. Their park may be nice but there's no reason to go there.

 

Dodgers: Their payroll is really high but yet their lineup is full of losers and has-beens. Gagne's been out and it's the team's fault.

 

Giants: No Bonds means no chance this year....Injury to Benitez and Schmidt throughout the season havent helped either.....

 

I have a feeling one team will run away with this but let's see...

Yankees....those ass hats expect to win every game.

Definitely not the Cubs, in some sick, twisted way, their fans love to lose.

 

I'm going with the Giants, of all the teams listed (besides the Yankees), they had the highest expectations going into this season with Benitez, Alou, and a Bonds chasing the HR record... it seemd like this may finally be the year for them and it has been anything but that.

I'd have to say the Giants.

 

Sure the Yankee fans are frustrated but they're starting to play better.

 

LA fans are probably upset with all the injuries.

 

Cub fans are used to this.

 

Red fans are upset that their team expected Eric Milton to be their ace.

 

but the Giants went out and spent alot of money. They went out and got Alou,Benitez,Vizquel, and Metheny (probably forgetting someone). They went out and got guys who could not only get on base, but also drive in runs to give Bonds protection. The fact that no one knows when Bonds will be back, and the only guy on the team really doing anything is Alou, should make SanFran fans very agitated.

Anyone with a brain knew Eric Milton was going to get rocked. He's never had an era below 4 and yet they somehow expected him to be a success for them.

 

It's between The Giants and Yankees. The Yanks are always expected to do great things. The Giants, well the hype was they finally had someone to protect Bonds and an awesome closer with some nice prospects. That all fell apart.

Yankees? they are only 3.5 out

looking back on the first half of the season, I'd add us to the poll.

By the way....Great American Ballpark is not very nice.

5. Yankees: out of those teams, they have by far the best playoff shot

4. Cubs: their fans are used to being disappointed

3. Cincy: nobody expected anything out of them

2. LAD: close 2nd. but after losing Beltre, they shouldnt have expected a return trip

1. SF: losing Bonds for the year, and Schmidt and Armando have gone on the DL. they actually spent some cash in the offseason, and theyve gone nowhere

Yankees.

There are these friends of my parents who r die hard yankee fans and we always bother them bout being yankee fans! and every thing about them is yankees yankees yankees!!!

Yankee fans are no longer angry...

Giants, injuries hit and hit hard when their window of opportunity was this year and next...pretty tough to top that.

 

I know the Yankees argument, but the writing was on the wall with that one, they looked tired in last year's playoffs, and all they did was get older in the offseason, and throw their money in the wrong direction. Beltran (all be he exceptionally overrated) would have gone a long way to fixing what is/was wrong with them, but Steinbrenner fudged that one up big time...

By the way....Great American Ballpark is not very nice.

If everyone but Bonds had been healthy the entire year, the Giants would be hit harder than any other team, but they'd still be in first place

If the Giants had the same injury problems besides Bonds, the GIants would be hit harder than any other team, but they'd still be in first place

But if you look at this list:

JT SNow missed some guys and had his performance hurt due to injuries

ditto to Ray Durham

Edgardo Alfonzo has been out for awhile

Bonds has been out the entire year

Grissom has been on the DL half the year with injuries drastically hurting his performance the other half

Moises Alou missed half of April due to injury, and the other half his performance was hurt

Schmidt spent a couple weeks on the DL and he still hasn't fully recovered from his injuries from last year, which has caused his dropoff in performance

Benitez was injured early on and won't come back until late August

The Giants were the preseason favorites to win the NL...due to all these injuries, the Giants season is over at the All Star Break

Spend a day at the old Cinergy/Riverfront Stadium back when it was standing and you might think otherwise. I have been to GABP more than a few times and its very confortable and has good views everywhere...not much else I need.

I was gonna ask the same thing. Favorites to win the NL West sure, but I don't think anybody favored them to win the penant.

Maybe I'm in the minority. But I'm not frustrated/angry at all with the Yankees at the moment.

 

Despite playing some of the worst baseball I've ever seen they are only 2.5 games back of the division lead...Frustrated with that? No. I'm happy with it.
