July 10, 200521 yr PLEASE there has to be someone else down in the minors. Shoot I'll take Bump as starter for 5IN then Leiter. There has to be someone.I can't take another start by Leiter
July 10, 200521 yr he was just spot starting edit: and why does it matter who starts?... the offense isnt helping right now(*waits for 18 run explosion*)
July 10, 200521 yr Where are you going to put him? Eat his salary and have him retire without seeing what he can do in a mop-up role? As much as I want Bump to have another chance at starting, Leiter had a somewhat imporessive bullpen outing and we needed the spot-start.

July 10, 200521 yr and I thought the return of Leiter was gonna be a GOOD thing... be better off signing Marino to pitch...
July 10, 200521 yr Yep. He should never again put on a Marlins uniform. He is wasting a roster spot. Yes I have to agree. I think the only reason they are keeping him is that they want him around next year broadcasting, radio or some position in the organization. This guy doesn't belong in the major's and we have a couple of those guys on our roster.
July 10, 200521 yr I'm convinced we need to eat Leiter's salary and give Bump the spot. Leiter is the worst starter in baseball.

July 10, 200521 yr Eat his salary and sour the team's professional relationship with him and his friends in the business before seeing if he can do anything productive from the 'pen? This isn't Darren Oliver - who if you forget was outstanding out of the pen for us at a point when we really needed the help - we're talking about. Leiter's making A LOT more and has a lot of more prestige in and out of the baseball.

July 10, 200521 yr LHP Jason Vargas Although I don't think he's ready and don't want him rushed to the bigs I rather see Vargas out there than Leiter anyday of the week. Leiter is basically a 8 million washed up mop up pitcher. I'll be more confortable giving Vargas a call-up after the trade deadline. By that time he will have 2-3 more starts under his belt.

He has a couple of days to face the facts and hang it up before he is forced to. :thumbup Al, you've had one hell of a career.
July 10, 200521 yr What does Vargas gain though? Leiter is the 11/12th guy on the staff. The impact is marginal at best.
July 10, 200521 yr Since Leiter is just a mop up man which is basically a reliver why not bring up Mike Flannery or Kevin Cave from AA. I doubt either will ever be as good as Messenger or Resop but why not give them a call? we have nothing to lose and we might as well see what we have in the farm before we make any traae.
July 10, 200521 yr Why make any move? He's not harming the team from the mopup spot. Is this about taking the candy away from the manager, sending a sign to the other players or taking our vengence out on Leiter?
July 10, 200521 yr Author Why make any move? He's not harming the team from the mopup spot. 849960[/snapback] Hey buddy in case you didn't see today's game Leiter went 3IN giving up like 100 runs before being taken out. YES a move is needed if he's going to stay in the rotation until Beckett comes back
July 10, 200521 yr Why make any move? He's not harming the team from the mopup spot. Is this about taking the candy away from the manager, sending a sign to the other players or taking our vengence out on Leiter? Its more like he has no future with the club as a PLAYER and right now he's potential is just mop up. I personally rather someone who gives me hope and can put up better #'s. Also its not like fans go to the ball park to see Leiter get hammered everytime. And if we do release him whats the harm in that? what can he complain about? he has an ERA close to 7 its currently 6.64 and a I believe 1.85 W.H.I.P, and he has more walks than K's.
July 10, 200521 yr What harm? Well in what can be measured, the additional $150K that would be spent having his replacement join the big leagues. I agree completly about getting players as they're progressing to peak form, but it's not as if this is a move that has to be made. The on field impact is marginal. The immediate off-field impact and the rest of this season is questionable.
