August 5, 200323 yr I can't wait 'till this kid is old enough to drink. Maybe by then he'll have achieved super star status...
August 5, 200323 yr Author April 13th is his birthday. hmmmm who else is born on that day? :mischief2
August 5, 200323 yr Author Thomas Jefferson, Rick Schroder and Quinten Richardson. um... just did a quick check, Cabs is born on the 18th.... anyway for those who still care, i was born on the 13th Miguel Cabrera
August 5, 200323 yr OK, now we're REALLY getting ahead of ourselves, aren't we? What are you talking about?
August 5, 200323 yr Everyone's acting like he's the second coming of Teddy Ballgame already. I think it's a little soon for that. He hasn't even played half a season yet.

The kid is going to be a star. There's no getting around that. He was just making a point, because some said he should have been sent down or we should have traded for someone. So, he broke out the stats.

August 5, 200323 yr I do agree that he looks good, but I don't forget past rookies that have been predicted as future superstars too soon. This kid came straight from AA (and it's VERY good when a 20-year-old has already reached AA) to the Majors and hit . 300+ in his first complete month. That's astonishing.
August 5, 200323 yr Author I do agree that he looks good, but I don't forget past rookies that have been predicted as future superstars too soon. i could be wrong, but how many players have had those stats before they were 21? he is in some very good company
August 5, 200323 yr i could be wrong, but how many players have had those stats before they were 21? Is it possible for someone to find the stats of Ken Griffey Jr. and/or Alex Rodriguez after their first complete month in the bigs?
August 5, 200323 yr Author the problem with KGJ is that he was a full time starter at age 19, i dont know if i can find how he did those first 2 months but if you want to see how his first year went.... Ken Griffey Jr-Age 19 127 games, 455 at bats, 61 runs, 120 hits, 23 doubles, 0 triples, 16 homeruns, 61rbi 44 walks, 83 strikeouts, 16 stolen bases, 7 caught stealing .264 avg, .420 slg, .329 obp, .748 ops, .156 ISO, .273 Secondary Avg and here is Alex Rodriguez-Age 18 17 games, 54 at bats, 4 runs, 11 hits, 0 doubles, 0 triples, 0 homeruns, 2rbi 3 walks, 20 strikeouts, 3 stolen bases, 0 caught stealing .204 avg, .204 slg, .241 obp, .445 ops, .000 ISO, .111 Secondary Avg Alex Rodriguez-Age 19 48 games, 142 at bats, 15 runs, 33 hits, 6 doubles, 2 triples, 5 homeruns, 19rbi 6 walks, 42 strikeouts, 4 stolen bases, 2 caught stealing .232 avg, .408 slg, .264 obp, .672 ops, .176 ISO, .232 Secondary Avg

Bottom line, Miguel right now is doing much better than A-Rod started out, and is statistically doing virtually as good as Griffey avg. wise, except Miguel would have more RBI and HR. Beinfest better realize he needs to sign Miguel and Dontrelle to some L-O-N-G term deals. It may cost more now, but in the long run it would literally save this team about $75-100 Mill. if they turn out as planned.
August 5, 200323 yr Author they will be cheap for a couple more years, no need to sign them to HUGE long term deals now... god forbid something happens(injury wise)
August 5, 200323 yr Author stop being so ignorant... they will get guaranteed money.... that's how it works the would sign if there isnt guaranteed money
August 5, 200323 yr they will be cheap for a couple more years, no need to sign them to HUGE long term deals now... god forbid something happens(injury wise) I'm saying we need to sign them to long term low money contracts (ala Money Ball). They obviously wouldn't make a lot of guarenteed money, seeing that they are young and it would be considered a risk. They would make at the most $4-5 Million in a season, and that would be in the las year of maybe a 5-7 year deal.
August 5, 200323 yr stop being so ignorant... they will get guaranteed money.... that's how it works the would sign if there isnt guaranteed money If they knew they would end up getting more money over the next two years by signing now instead of waiting later, they probably would. I don't think two 21 and 20-year-olds want to make under $1 Mill for the next 3 years through arbitration when they could make $1-2 Mill now for the next three years (and make $3-5 mill the next 3 years). They want money now most likely, even if they could probably get more later on by waiting. I know they could just as easily wait a few years to make more money later, but I think two kids want to wait to get theirs. I would think they would be eager to get money now instead of in 3-4 years.
