Switching-hitting second baseman Luis Castillo raised some eyebrows by batting right-handed against Pirates right-hander Kip Wells in the sixth inning of the Marlins' 3-0 win on Thursday. Castillo typically only bats right-handed against righties when he faces a knuckleball pitcher. Manager Jack McKeon says Castillo has talked about batting right-handed more often, partly because he feels some discomfort behind his left knee, which is planted when he swings. Castillo is batting .427 right-handed, compared to .263 left-handed. Not that Castillo will forgo batting left-handed. He likely will bat from the left side when Juan Pierre is on base, to protect Pierre if he tries to steal. Catchers have to adjust their throws with a left-handed hitter at the plate. Interesting...

July 30, 200521 yr he has more power righty but he swings so aggressive he wont have a high batting average. He will be one of those free swinging hitters that have like 20 homeruns with a .220 avg. Lefty, he has more contact and can hit to any field.

July 30, 200521 yr I thought he hit from the right side because in the 6th inning, it was 0-0 and with no one on base and 2 outs, Luis would be swinging for the fences.
