the winners of the trading deadline

Featured Replies

I give it to the M's ... they are done for the season so they dealt a couple of players for good quality prospects

Cubs come in a close second

Marlins, got a good lefty for the pen, kept Burnett for a playoff run.

This deadline sucked though.

It's hard to say because they're all pretty even.

But the fact that the M's got the most young talent puts them over the top.

Atlanta and the Cubbies came out pretty good as well.

Easy..Atlanta sured up a weakness and got a live arm for the back end of the pen....Their a force now even more.

The Loser - The Fans

One of the phillies broadcasters brought up a good point today. Why not move the deadline back to August 15th when the herd is thinned out a little more and their's clear buyers and sellers.

the Braves and Cubs both robbed the other teams

The Tigers were not robbed.

they got a 26 year old releiver who has good stuff but isn't effective while pitching in relief, and a guy who hasn't been considered any sort of good prospect in years. I think Farnsworth not accepting the contract extention forced their hand.

I think Aaron Gleeman said it best "Colon is the better prospect of the two, but the Tigers will be lucky if they end up with one quality middle reliever out of this trade. Considering the price Tampa Bay was reportedly trying to get for closer Danys Baez, Atlanta snagging Farnsworth for this little is a steal."

In terms of Danys Baez, well, the Rays are stuck with him now and once he leaves through free agency, then what? The Tigers at least got something out of Farnsworth as opposed to being unrealistic and asking way too much.

Colon will pan out for the Tigers advantage.

You said it yourself, Farnsworth not signing forced their hand, so instead of keeping him to pitch for a barely .500 team, they got two prospects. You mention Baez, they asked for alot, and got...nothing...so wouldnt getting 2 prospects better then not getting anything?

Colon has not been good in relief, but he has as a starter, something the Tigers could use him as. Everything I've read is the Tigers got a kid with electric stuff who needs to be molded. Minor is still only 23, and he must be doing something right to have moved up to AAA in three years. He isnt great, but still improves the farm with more arms.
