August 12, 200521 yr I was just reading tonights game thread, and was sickened by the total loss of hope for some of you. Those who think we have no shot at catching Houston or Atlanta. Well, in the middle of September, when we have our big guns back, we have a 4 GAME SERIES with Houston. Those who say we have no chance of catching them, I just dont see where you are coming from.
August 12, 200521 yr Those who say we have no chance of catching them are complete and utter morons. 899528 How about saying you disagree with that stance?? I think we have a decent chance to get in the playoffs, but it bothers me when people write stuff like that.
August 12, 200521 yr No matter how tough the loss was tonight, we still won the series. 899531 And that's pretty much the key from here on out.
August 12, 200521 yr Author I'll be the first to admit this season is frustrating. The Braves, with a lineup full of minorleaguers, is in 1st place when the team they put on the field is unproven and in some areas garbage. Yet the still win. We put the most complete and probably the team with the most talent on the field, and we are trying to keep pace in the WC race. Frustrating, yes, out of reach? No.
August 12, 200521 yr My dispair comes from the fact that the Marlins cannot close the deal on sweepable series, nor can they respond after late inning adversity. If you guys want to "tip the hat" to Webb tonight, then that's an equally distressing sign because we managed only 4 hits off him, while the free-falling Nationals managed almost that many runs (3) off an equally tough Andy Pettitte. If people are content with the Marlins being a "good" team, then this attitude is fine, but to be a great team, a playoff team, or a championship team, pitchers who are much better than Webb are going to need to be bested. I mean, looking at the playoff teams' staffs right now, Webb would be lucky to be the #4 for either the Astros, Braves or Cardinals. This team just reaffirmed tonight that they don't have the intangibles to be a "great" team. Close games, good pitching, bad pitching...doesn't matter, they seemingly find a way to blow it. We should have won tonight's game, it's just that simple, and with the final 50 games here, every win counts.

August 12, 200521 yr Author I was just reading tonights game thread, and was sickened by the total loss of hope for some of you.? Those who think we have no shot at catching Houston or Atlanta.? Those who say we have no chance of catching them, I just dont see where you are coming from. 899528 Clemens-Oswalt-Pettitte 899553 Yes...and Beckett, Burnett, and Willis...two hard throwing righties and a finesse lefty for each.
August 12, 200521 yr What are Delgado's career numbers vs. Clemens? He obviously faced him a lot in the AL.

They just don't seem to have the resiliency or the killer attitude that they did in 2003, and that championship teams do. You watch the Braves or the Cardinals, and they "find ways to win." Players don't "pick each other up" when they make mistakes. Can't seem to come from behind. Most of their wins the last few weeks have been early leads it seems.
August 12, 200521 yr No matter how tough the loss was tonight, we still won the series. 899531 When Glaus hit the HR that's immediatley what I thought
August 12, 200521 yr Look, we can still win our the next few series and make the push. We get more healthy by the day and perhaps we can snag up more bullpen help as well from the waiver wires. We did it two years ago. Perhaps we can again.
August 12, 200521 yr Author What are Delgado's career numbers vs. Clemens? He obviously faced him a lot in the AL. 899558 Delgado vs Clemens: 31 AB, 11 H, 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 12 BB, 10 K, .355 BA Delgado vs Pettite: 55 AB, 20 H, 3 2B, 5 HR, 16 RBI, 10 BB, 15 K, .364 BA
August 12, 200521 yr No matter how tough the loss was tonight, we still won the series. 899531 Yup...2 out of 3, 3 out of 4 and so on...every series from here on out. That's what all of us have to be looking at down the stretch. So we took 2 out of 3 against the D-Backs? Great. Let's do the same this weekend.
August 12, 200521 yr Author Does anyone find it funny though, that both of our series against St. Louis are in August(we start and finish the month against them)which makes it hard to start the month with momentum and really hard to finish the month with, we drew Pittsburgh 7 times(who kills us), and we drew the Cubbies 9 times...and a 4 game series against the 'Stros in September? I hate our schedule this year.
August 12, 200521 yr we just cant get above the 5 games over .500 barrier. this season we were at 10 at the highest, then dropped, and since then we get to 5, then back down to like 2 or 1 game over.. then back up to 5, then back down. I realized it yesterday when i looked at our record, even having played better since the ASG, and we cant get above 5 games over.
