August 29, 200520 yr Just saw this on the Herald on line. Has anyone heard anything about this? Q. Any updates on the stadium? Do you think if the Marlins make a playoff push again shortly after the 2003 push, that they might actually put wheel in motion? Phil, Orlando, Fl 8/20/05 A. The Marlins' success on the field nor ownership's commitment to winning, sadly, does not seem to have much impact with political leaders. However the City of Miami and Miami-Dade County are apparently pursuing a new way to bridge the funding shortfall on the stadium. The plan now is to seek approval to gather money from a tax on phone cards. Kevin Baxter 8/21/05
August 29, 200520 yr A tax on phone cards? How the hell could that possibly generate enough money 920538[/snapback] most people buy phone cards to call to their home countries.
August 31, 200520 yr In other words, all the Cubans that call Cuba every week are going to pay for our stadium. But as long as we get our stadium go for it. :lol
September 8, 200520 yr Apparently no one here has ever needed to use a calling card before. 1. Floridians hate taxes, remmeber the cruise ship thing? Bad for economy but also a way to lose improtant revenue and votes from the people in those businesses. 2. We're going to need some kind of role call here, b/c none of the cubans I know, including myself use phone cards for calling cuba most of the time. The cards dont present the best discounts available to an extremely expensive call area. Not only that if you tax them (especially for calls to cuba) itll defeat the prupose of usign a calling card at all which is to save money 3. Most likely wont create enough revenue.
