September 4, 200520 yr Just heard on the news(nbc 6) that Supreme Court Cheif Justice William H. Rehnquist has died this evening at his home in Virigina. Still a developing story...
September 4, 200520 yr Author Well, Pat Robertson got his wish. 928641 He'll probably be on the news tomorrow praying for additional Supreme Court deaths. That idiot should never be allowed on TV.
September 4, 200520 yr Do you f***ing mind? 928643 That was uncalled for. Just because I said something about a loony who prayed for Rehnquist's death. Its related news.
September 4, 200520 yr Forgive me I was under the impression we'd have a seperate discussion thread for assorted theories
September 4, 200520 yr Author wow....? sad to hear.? I wonder who will be the next Chief Justice? 928665 I was under the impression that Clarence Thomas would be the most likely candidate
September 4, 200520 yr a very sad to hear thing. He did alot for this country for years on end. He was a good american.
September 4, 200520 yr Scalia maybe? wow my jaw literally dropped when i heard this... Not many people survive thyroid cancer. RIP
September 4, 200520 yr If it's Scalia, I might think about getting my 1-way bus ticket out of this country. (And yes, I'm kidding, but I'm dead serious when I say that Scalia as CJ will be a very bad thing for this country. Plus, I don't think Bush has enough political capital to do it, especially with the bang-up job he's done with Katrina, Cindy Sheehan, the war, gas prices, etc.)
September 4, 200520 yr Well, Pat Robertson got his wish. 928641 He'll probably be on the news tomorrow praying for additional Supreme Court deaths. That idiot should never be allowed on TV. 928644 I agree completely. Yes, I would be willing to bet that he will continue to wish for the deaths of all of the Supreme Court members who have ever leaned liberal on any vote. He had to buy his own TV network just so that he could say all of his crazy nonsense. No rational person would allow him on their network. Getting back to the topic, I'm sorry to see him go. I knew he wasn't going to be around for much longer, but now we're going to have two Supreme Court nominees going through the process in a very short time. I hope we don't see Scalia as Chief Justice. That would be very very bad for everyone.
September 4, 200520 yr I heard Scalia and Thomas as the two most likely candidates. Both of these candidates, though, would receive a harsh fight from the democrats and moderate republicans.
September 4, 200520 yr If its Scalia or Thomas then there would be another vacancy. For some reason I think Roberts is going to get the role as CJ. Mainly because he's the only person the two sides can agree on. There's also talk of Sanda Day O'Connor coming back to the court and fill the CJ void.
September 5, 200520 yr I doubt either Thomas or Scalia becomes CJ, as usually the Chief is appointed instead of promoted. You never know, though.
