Are we really at war? I have heard no formal declaration of war. You are correct though Katrina.... War generally helps the economy, but if I am correct, and I have not studied much on the Vietnam era, this was not necessarily the case.... During WWI and WWII this was definitely the case. But as I promised.... This 'war' is no longer about terrorism, which is what it was supposed to all be about from the start. Does this have to do with oil? Not entirely, but that has to be a factor. Does this have to deal with removing Saddam from power? A big factor, but not the only by far. You also have to factor in the fact that Daddy did not get the job done 12 years ago. I think this is more true than ever, especially in light of the documents which have surfaced saying conflict was planned prior to inaugration in 2001. But the biggest reason why this has all come to the situation it has..... A failure of the United Nations For too long this organization has held no real weight and has not been taken seriously. Too many edicts have been ignored, so why should Saddam pay attention to them, even the United States ignores many edicts laid down by the UN. There has been no 'consequences' and no real action done when edicts have been ignored..... The United States is the last remaining empire. What will occur as a result of this conflict? Every empire has failed ultimately. Is the prosperity of the American empire waning? I hope not, but we must be very cautious about this. If Bush succeeds, he will forever secure his place in history as one of the greatest Presidents in the history of this nation. If he fails, which I think is a possibility, everyone assumes we succeed, but have we fully considered the possibilities of failure? What happens then? Am I for this war? I dont know, I lean towards no. But only because I woudl rather find a peaceful alternative. But what alternative could that be? I dont know. The UN was set up for that, and it has failed. I forsee the UN crumbling and dying as a result of this, no matter what happens. Will the UN rise again? Time will tell. But if it does, look for the French, Germans, and Russians to have far less clout, and the United States and her chief allies to have enormous clout. To this day, I still have no idea why the French have the clout they do, in the era the UN was created they were forced to depend on Allied intervention to liberate them...of course you can look at Russia and Germany in many of hte same ways.... Pay attention people....this era we are currently in will define the future of this world for the forseeable future. Pray for the best, prepare for the worst.

Maybe I will just go Green. The chances of Bush getting my vote if the election were held today is about 20%. (Before the war it was 15%)

Having Saddam removed from power was a necessary step if there is ever going to be liberty for the Iraqi people. A peaceful Iraq (if and when it happens) would help bring peace to that troubled region. The spineless UN should have shown the leadership to make it happen. Once again the US is left in the unenviable situation of having to act because the UN does not have the wherewithal to back up it's own resolutions. The exact same situation existed in Kosovo where so many were suffering, and the Europeans just bickered with each other and stood idly by watching. It would not be possible for the US to police all actions in the world. The most difficult choice is to decide when we can or can't. Any choice would seem unfair or unbalanced to someone. Do we step in to restore order in Haiti, a country in our own backyard? Should we have gone into Somalia where we have little interest? Tough choices. I don't have the answers

It was either Lcyberlina, Alkazoid, or Sorianofan. I forget which one. It was only for the democratic candidates though. I'll try and find it.

I guess you haven't been to presidentmatch.com. I don't see Bush getting re-elected. The guy is an idiot and an incompetent leader. Unless the reports out of Iran are true, and U.S. forces have already captured Osama Bin Laden and are holding him and waiting until Bush starts falling too far in the polls.
March 1, 200422 yr I think its a really sad thing that says a lot about this country that you are 14 and say you are Republican. Im not making a value judgment about the party, either. It would be the same thing if you said Democrat. Most people just choose the party their parents belong to and repeat things they hear their parents say without even knowing the difference between parties or even if it reflects their own values. And Im not just talking about you. I dont think any 14-year old should have already been tagged with a party affiliation. Says who? I'm 17 now. At 12 I already knew which side I stood on. At 14 I was already arguing pretty passionately for it. I agree that in this modern society not everyone that is 14 is ready to be making political decisions, but this isn't the total case. Oh, and the parent thing does not always apply. My dad is liberalish and my mom is moderate conservative. I'm way out there.
