Worst Weekend of the Entire Season

Featured Replies

No nice way to sugar coat it. That was the worst baseball we've played...all season. Given what was at stake/the opportunities we wasted, this was worse than the Cubs series in Florida before the break.

Not a single starter went 5, no home-runs in a ballpark that might as well be a high-school field, no signs of life today after an incredibly dramatic win the night before. Even in the one win, we had another sub-par outing from Jason Vargas, seriously bringing into question what this season has done to him fatigue wise.

The season isn't over, the team isn't done, but I don't envy anyone who has to be on that flight to Houston, a funeral might be cheerier at this stage.

Let's see how they bounce back. Sure, it's the worst weekend of the season... but we're still only .5 games back and now we get to play four games against the team that's leading the race.

I'm assuming you weren't watching when the Cubs swept us... :whistle

the only thing I can say is Burnett needs to step it up.....d-train and josh had good outings when we needed them . now Burnett needs to get his head back in the game vs. the astros. Vargas is a rookie so i can't say i expect him to be lights out and ish needs to keep us in games, but most importantly of all...Burnett needs to go back to his offspeed stuff and be as good as he says he is when we need him to be. you wanted a chance at the postseason aj, well here it is, now you need to grab onto it just like josh and willis have.

Games before the all-star break don't mean as much as they do in September. Yes, I know they all count the same at the end of the season, but truthfully, they don't matter.

The Astros lost 2/3 this weekend, the Phillies were teetering on the edge of elimination. Instead of taking advantage, taking control of the wild-card and putting the Phillies out of their misery and making it a 2 team race, we let them right back in it, and we sucked a very important thing called 'confidence' out of the team heading into the biggest series of the season.

i think the phils took the series with astros off just to rest up for the series with us cuz they know they cant win so they dont want another east team to. grrrrr!

And last Monday was the end of the season!!!!!

It sucks didn't win 2 of three, but considering how the Marlins played I consider winning one game a success. We didn't lose any ground. I will understand if you make one of these if the Marlins lose 3 of their next 4, but it really isn't that big of a deal. We still control our own destiny

it happens, this is baseball. I rather be us that the Phillies. Look, they were sweeped at home when they were leading the wild card. There is no excusse for that.

We knew it was going to be a tough race in September. Who knows what's going to happen.

with that said, lose 3 in Houston and our season is over. This team still hasn't gelled and playing to their potential.

The Marlins came into the weekend .5 out of the WC card. They came out of it .5 out of the WC. It's not really that bad.

in addition, what other team doesn't have problems?

- Phills get sweeped at home and give up the WC lead

- Houston loses two out of 3 in Milwakee (today was Oswalt vs Helig for God's sake)

- Washington done

- New York done

But if they played half-way capable, they'd be up .5 games, and Philly would be done.

It's like going 1-2-3 in the 5th inning down one with the heart of the order up. It's OK because you didn't hurt yourself anymore, but it's bad because there are only so many opportunities left in this season, and when the Astros strength is the strength (or lack thereof) of schedule, when they don't capitalize and we don't either...it's pretty tough.

It's quite a bit of an exagerration to call this the worst weekend of the entire season for the Marlins. There were many worst ones this year. How about getting swept by the Cubbies just before the All Star break and how about losing 3 out of 4 to the Mets earlier than that; and those series were here in Dolphins Stadium.

Worst weekend for the Marlins? No. Maybe the Mets, but not the Marlins.

We should have taken the WC lead this weekend, but at least we're still .5 out. We're VERY lucky.

We miss LoDuca behind the plate just as much as we miss him at the plate.

Treanor's pitch sequences are about as predictable as they can be, and the Phillies were just teeing off on our pitchers.

I think the Braves are gonna shut down the Phils and maybe even break thier back. If the Marlins take 3 of 4 from the Stros' the Phils may end up being a non-factor. We'll see how it plays out, but being 3 or more games back or so from the WC leader at this point is a very tall order, hence why I think the Nats are finished.

I agree. It's not the end of the season. We are still in it.

But admittedly it is frustrating that this team does not take advantage of it's opportunities to secure the WC lead.

We are still not clicking on all cylinders with two starters out and more than 1/2 the rotation slumping.

Fortunately Houston and Philadelphia are prone to slumps as well.

This race will likely go down to the last few games of the season as none of the contenders show signs of running away with it.

Late in 2003 the Marlins had a bad series at Philly. From reports from Boog, who was on the plane, the team spirit was very high on the trip back to Miami, where they went on to have a good series against the Phillies. Don't make too much of this.

.

.

What is important, as I pointed out 2 weeks ago, is that we get consistent quality starts from Beckett and Burnett. So far that hasn't happened. It needs to happen starting with this Astros series.

with that said, lose 3 in Houston and our season is over. This team still hasn't gelled and playing to their potential.

Even then we'd only be 2.5 back with a bunch of baseball to play.

I STILL wouldn't count us out of it.

Though it would suck. A lot.
