Posted August 14, 200321 yr Burnett could be reasonable, but I think Pavano. All of the others are the type that does better as a starter. Pavano has, however done well in relief before. Trading one of them may also be a good option, but not unless Almanza and/or Olsen develop into good relievers.
August 14, 200321 yr i say Aj will go to the Pen , In fact i think he will do what Eric Gagne and John Smoltz both did , And i hope Aj can be as good as them in the closers position
August 14, 200321 yr Send Pav's ....not cuz he's #5 but cuz he'll be able for long relief AND when he starts 90 percent of the time he'll carry a shutout through 5-6 sometimes even 7 innings and than get shelled, and lose his consistency...by putting him in the pen, you dont have to worry about him losing consistency because he wont be pitching as long as he does as a starter.
August 14, 200321 yr i dont know about sending down pavs. i've liked pavs all year. but i dont think burnett will be thrown right back into the starting role maybe not even until 2005. it'll be a long road back for burnett throwing shutouts like he did in 2002.
August 14, 200321 yr Pavano to the pen would be perfect. He usually gets tired after 5 or 6 inings anyway, he would be great in long relief.
August 14, 200321 yr I would put Pavano even though he has been very solid with us but we have no other choice....
August 14, 200321 yr Pavano is going to be too expensive for the pen, unless he was the closer. He's making $1.5 million now which will probably go up to $2 million after arbitration. With Looper closing and Spooneybarger as setup, that's too much for us to spend on a middle reliever. It's moot anyway since AJ won't be back in the rotation until late 2004 at the earliest, if not 2005. By then lots of thing could happen to any of these guys.
