September 14, 200520 yr Carpenter goes 6 1/3 tonight, giving up 4 runs. His ERA rose to 2.31, compared to Dontrelle's 2.49. This gives Dontrelle a shot to end with more wins...and if Carp has another rough outing next game, who knows...
September 14, 200520 yr oh wow, didn't think he would stumble a bit, great news! Dontrelle is so deserving, this year there is two very well deserving studs. Dtrain is just so much cooler tho...im rooting for him hardcore.
September 14, 200520 yr If they end up with the same amount of wins, then carpenter has to get it because he has less losses (an slightly lower era)
September 14, 200520 yr Yep Carpenter ended his 22 game consecutive quality start streak. However he still hasnt lost a game since June 8th.. Pretty amazing.. He is human afterall. Cardinals continue to win when he takes the mound though.. I think they've won like 17 straight games with him pitching or something. Carpenter gave up four runs and 11 hits in 6 1-3 innings, his shortest outing since the last game before his winning streak began when he lasted six innings and gave up three runs in a 4-0 loss to the Red Sox on June 8. It ended a run of 22 consecutive quality starts, the longest streak in the NL since Cardinals Hall of Famer Bob Gibson had 22 straight in 1968.

That said, it sure would be sweet see Willis win the Cy Young :thumbup
September 14, 200520 yr IMO, this is pretty much over and for the Dtrain to win this thing, Carp would have to turn into Al Leiter
September 14, 200520 yr Dontrelle just doesn't seem to be getting the same press as Carpenter. Hell most analysts I've heard still think the race is between Carpenter and Clemens with Dontrelle a distant 3rd. Dontrelle may have to beat Carpenter by 2 wins to get it. You have to give it to Dontrelle though. He has tied Carpenter in wins and complete games, and leads him in shutouts 5-4. He is certainly building a strong argument for winning the award.

September 14, 200520 yr i hope Carpenter starts getting shelled 944696[/snapback] Then the Marlins get shelled in the first round. j/k By the way, I really think Dontrelle has a good good shot at this but I'm just curious.. How many more k's does Carpenter have and what's Dontrelle's BAA? WHIP? I dont know honestly.

September 14, 200520 yr I think D-Train has the outside track after Carp and Clemmens even with his recent poor outings.
September 14, 200520 yr Unrelated, but when is Trelle pitching, Friday or Saturday? I'd like to see him.

September 14, 200520 yr The WHIP and BAA and K's and all that nonsense shouldn't matter at all. That all gets funnelled into the telling stats, which are ERA, Wins, and innings pitched. If I were a voter that would be the entirety of what I looked at (obvious exceptions are made for closers). Carpenter is still the clear front-runner, and he would probably have to have another 2 starts like this for Dontrelle to have a strong chance. And, of course, Dontrelle has to continue to be lights out. The one thing Dontrelle has in his favor is that the Marlins should be in the spotlight for the next couple weeks. So if he throws 3 complete game victories or something and the Marlins win the WC, those big game performances could impress some voters. Carpenter just hasn't had any big games...which is in large part due to the fact that he keeps winning.
