September 24, 200521 yr I was at the bar tonight, watching sportscenter, and everyone in there was with me watching highlights of Carpenters piss poor performance, and they are all like "Oh well he is still the cy young" and I am like "What about Dontrelle?" And they are like "He has no chance, he isn't in Carpenters league" and I just laughed.
September 24, 200521 yr Carpenter gets the loss giving up 9 ERs. His ERA balloons to 2.71 vs. 2.44 for the D-Train. Chris has one more start, Dontrelle two. Dontrelle's magic number is 1 to finish with the highest win total in MLB. I don't know if he's going to get 2 more starts...He's scheduled to pitch the 5th to last game. That means he'd have to pitch on 4 days rest...Jack might let him, but he's not scheduled to do so. Would be a great honor, though.
September 24, 200521 yr Chris has one more start, Dontrelle two. Why? I'm thinking he only gets one more.

He starts every five days (with four days rest) normally (all starters do). He started Thursday, which means he'll start Tuesday, and then again on Sunday. Two more starts. He could be 24-9 by the end of the season. If he can come out twice and give a performance similar to the night in New York, he'll be 24-9 and a 2.30 ERA. He'll get the Cy Young if he does.
September 24, 200521 yr Carpenter gets rocked MILWAUKEE -- And finally, all the streaks are over. The award chase may be, as well. Chris Carpenter took the loss as the Cardinals fell to the Brewers, 9-6, at Miller Park on Friday night. Carpenter's loss was his first in his last 14 decisions, dating back to a June 8 loss against the Red Sox. He hadn't lost to a National League team since May 7 against Washington. Carpenter (21-5) lost on the road for the first time in 2005, and took his first defeat against an NL Central foe this year. He may have also sustained a crushing blow to his Cy Young candidacy. Carpenter's ERA soared from 2.42, second in the Majors, to 2.71, a distant fourth. He remains stuck at 21 wins with one start remaining, while Florida's Dontrelle Willis has 22, a 2.44 ERA and two more chances to pitch. His focus was much more in the here-and-now after the game, though. The nine runs against Carpenter were the most he's permitted since 2000, and nine earned runs equaled a career high. The 12 base hits he allowed were also the most in his career. "It makes me want to puke," he said. "That's unacceptable." La Russa, who has campaigned for Carpenter and MVP candidate Albert Pujols, wanted no part of a line of thought that Carpenter's Cy Young candidacy might have been damaged. "I tell you what," he said. "If the mentality of the people that vote is going to look at one game today and ignore the fact that he hadn't lost in how long? Three months? If that's their mentality, then he never had a chance anyway." Said Carpenter of the award talk: "I've told you all along. I don't [care]. If it comes to the end of the year and I win it, I win it. If I don't, I don't. I don't care. We made the playoffs and I'm getting myself prepared to pitch in the playoffs and win the ultimate goal."

I mean 3 day's rest. If he were to get 2 starts, his last start of the season would be on 3 days rest. He'd be pitching the 5th to last and then the last.
