August 16, 200323 yr While Dontrelle Willis has been stealing the show there are several other Marlins who are just as responsible for the Marlins situation. I think Mark Redman has performed beyond the level anybody expected him to perform at. I am amazed that this guy wasn't an all-star. You can think Redman just as much as Willis for this unexpected contention. Alhough Redman is nearing the end of his career, he has about as good an ERA as anyone in the NL. Mark Redman isn't getting enough credit, because without Redman, Willis is just another phenom. With him, however, he's a saviour. :

August 16, 200323 yr Redman has put together an excellent season. I think most of us here have recognized that and I also think that we have also noticed the dearth of recognition he has attained in the media. Some guys are like that though, and I dont think Redman has a problem with that. Remember when we made this move? We dealt Gary Knotts away and sent Millar to Japan (that fiasco, thanks Red Sox) to get H-worth and Redman. No one in the media really even commented on it. I felt that Redman could be very good with us. His ERA was very solid with the Tigers, but he suffered from no offensive support. You can basically bet on a pitcher's ERA dropping anywhere from a .5 to 1 run less when they cross over to the NL from AL. Last year, his ERA was 4.21, so that means he is right on pace (at least for me). The surprising thing is, how did no other teams recognize the value of a guy who threw 200+ innings and had a solid ERA with the Tigers? Redman is going a fine job, give he and Beinfest credit for making this happen. But is he at the end of his career? NO! Look at where Leiter was when we got him - I think Redman is in a similar position. His career is just starting. I think he didnt make the All-star squad because he was injured at the time, if I remember correctly.

August 16, 200323 yr Why are we talking about Redman and age 40? I think he can go to 45 easily. He recovered from dead arm in less than 5 months, that is tough.
August 16, 200323 yr you think he's gonna play till he's 40 ? :o He's not a real hard thrower. just like moyer but he has pinpoint accuracy and those type of guys are able to stick around longer. If he can just keep his production near what he's doing this year, then he's going to be around for a while. He's only going to be 39 in 10 years and most good pitchers retire around that age.
