Community Service

Featured Replies

I'm doing some research on involvement of teenagers in community service, and why some people do it while others don't. I'd love to get some feedback from everyone here, so if you feel like posting, I need your:

What type of service(s) do you do?

Thanks a lot in advance from anyone who takes a moment to reply. Fill out as much of the information as you feel comfortable with.

Thanks.

I don't do anything....feel like I have better uses for my little time.

Ugh, don't even remind me. I'm in major need of hours but I never get around to finding a place and such. I still have a year but time flies.

Though I'm currently not involved, I previously coached a baseball team and will soon help prepare a class of kids for the AP American Government exam

med school--i actually have to pay lots of money to do community service.

oh, and in hs i did a ginormous amt in a nursing home and a hospital...entertaining old ppl, pushing ppl around in stretchers, and checking equipment for y2k compliance--random junk like that. i did some tutoring too...that was kinda fun. as for motivation...i primarily did all that stuff to pad my resume for college apps.

no volunteering now... dammit i need something that pays.

i volunteered a little bit for the Orange Bowl committee last year and volunteered at a hospital when I was 17.

Let me see what all have i done before?

-wrapped gifts for underprivledged at christmas time

-worked in a food bank

-built a house

-painted school buildings

-served food for homeless

-tutored kids

-presented a class showing off college life to kids

-taught class introducing freshmen to college life

-worked in a retirement facility

-worked on a ranch

and thats off the top of my head and probably maybe half of my service work over the years.

I was court ordered to do communitry service when I was 16 for trespassing, illegal consumption, curfew violation, and something I dont really remember. That was my only official "community service".

As for right now, I help the American Legion with the adopt a highway every year and help the city cleanup the city diamond for little league/pee wee/pony league games, and help coach the little kids as well.

Anything the Baptist Student Union at William and Mary comes up with - missions trips, collecting food, making donations, etc
