Castro had his chance and didn't do well. Remember before CJ came back? Redmond and Castro were the catchers and with alot of playing time, Redmond totally outperformed Castro.

 

To say that Castro had his chance is being completely unfair to Castro. He's never had a fair chance in the majors. In 5 seasons, he's gotten all of 361 ABs. That's barely half a season for an everyday player. Compare that to someone like Alex Gonzalez, who's gotten 2125 ABs before turning 27 (and has been pretty bad for the majority of those ABs), and the notion that Castro has "had his chance" sounds absurd. Castro has never had a chance to prove himself the way players like Gonzalez, Castillo, Lowell, Lee, etc. have.

When you have had proven catchers like CJ, Pudge, and Redmond, it wouldn't be fair. But a catcher is usually what you see is what you get.

 

Ramon was not supposed to be good offensively and was, great. But it is not worth it to replace Redmond with him this season as the number 2 catcher.

 

With Pudge playing everyday, neither gets much playing time and they don't need to. Jack might start them if Pudge slumps, but that really hasn't happened lately. Castro will continue to come off the bench.

:banghead Personally I don't like Mike redmond. He looks to me to be over weight and just doesn't look like a catcher. Why bring him in when you have someone like Ramon. The organization talks so much about Ramon and how great he is and how they wouldn't trade him well then why only give him pinch hitting duties?! It's mind boggling. I'd rather see Pudge and Ramon as my catchers redmond is good Defensively but offense I'd rather have ramon. I am just frustrated

Quite the opposite, actually. Ramon was supposed to be this amazing offensive catcher, and Redmond was supposed to be a nothing.

Why would you play Castro at 1st when he doesn't know the position (even if he does try and learn) when you have Redmond, who can already play it?

Can you elaborate on this? Are you suggesting that because Castro is a .230 hitter in 350-some ABs, that he's probably a career .230 hitter?

OK, let's say you put Castro at 1B. He plays 160 games next year.

 

You can't expect Mike Redmond to catch even 130 games. 100 is realistic. Who do you have as his reliable alternative? Treanor?

 

I'd rather see Redmond play 130-140 at 1B with Castro playing 145-155 at catcher.

I doubt we will keep both Pudge and Redmond, but like I said, it is remotely possible. Everything is remotely possible until the start of next season.
