Why are we keeping Mike redmond

Featured Replies

:banghead Personally I don't like Mike redmond. He looks to me to be over weight and just doesn't look like a catcher. Why bring him in when you have someone like Ramon. The organization talks so much about Ramon and how great he is and how they wouldn't trade him well then why only give him pinch hitting duties?! It's mind boggling. I'd rather see Pudge and Ramon as my catchers redmond is good Defensively but offense I'd rather have ramon. I am just frustrated

Because Redmond is a good catcher and can manage pitchers better than Ramon. It was proven last season while CJ was out. redmond and Castro played alot of games and Redmond did better.

Castro is a better bench player than Redmond, so Red gets the start while Castro comes off the bench.

:banghead Well I see we have one Lil red supporter. How many more are there?!?!? I hate seeing mike come into a game or starting instead of Pudge and then they place him 3rd in the battng order LMAO that's hilarious not to mention pretty stupid.Ramon is more of a threat what do you want power or the silencer my goodness if you're goin to play him then don't bat him 3rd he's not scary.

Let me try to explain this to you.

redmond does not do well when he comes off the bench unless he has plenty of at bats by starting. castro can come off the bench and hit a homer.

now if you bench red to play castro, you will lose his productivity since he does not bat well unless he sees plenty of at bats. would you risk losing another bat to play a backup catcher, or do what jack is doing to have the most bats possible?

Did I mention Red's defense behind the plate? He is very good blocking the ballas and handling the pitchers.

Goin back to my initial statement I know he has good D but, but I don't like him that's me Mr. Cape fish I don't like Mike redmond if it means strating ramon and losing red's offense which is little then so be it. And when he does play why bat him 3rd hello mcfly?!?!? do you not see that

you bat him third so that when pudge is off, it doesn't disturb our lineup. Red isn't as bad at the plate as you let on.

I defend Redmond because he and Sea Bass are the only farm system Marlins from 1992. He has done a great job with us and has never been injured. He puts in effort and is there when we need him. the least you can do is show him some gratitude. Ramon has plenty of career ahead of him, Redmond doesn't have that much anymore.

Because he is a good Backup catcher...he did a great job as a starter last year and i would keep him. We do have to many catchers thats why we almost traded Castro but it didnt happen.

Redmond will be here next season. Ramon was almost traded, if Ramon was so valuable, he wouldn't be on the trade block.

If we let red go, he will go to Atlanta (backup to the new catcher) and we will be in a big problem.

And that's in limited AB's and playing time POWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ramon = power and he can catch pretty darn good. My opinion I'd take Ramon any day over redmond

Ramon is valuble but the FO cant see that. Everytime (well it seems) he bats he does something good specially last year right after being called up he was hitting good, he tears up the minors when we send him down.

Ramon isn't a good catcher defensively compared to Redmond.

Now on the offense, Castro has never played long enough to have a slump. We don't know how he deals with slumps. Redmond deals with slumps by circling the day on the calendar that Glavine is pitching.

I knew someone was going to bring the glavine thing up .. I got it show me what he did last time he faced Glavine. If I remember correctly it was NOTHING. Not to mention he won't have 200+ AB's against Glavine so he needs to be productive against other as well.

Redmond is productive. Look up his numbers for last season and those of Castro.

Redmond has more RBI than Castro and the both have BA over .200 this season. That is productive.

Season TM G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS

Redmond 2002 Fla 89 256 19 78 15 0 2 28 21 34 0 2 .305 .372 .387 .759

Castro 2002 Fla 54 101 11 24 4 0 6 18 14 24 0 0 .238 .322 .455 .777

Red and Castro played plenty of games and Red had a better BA and OBP. Those are important.

Here is some more.

Ramon isn't a good catcher defensively compared to Redmond.

We cant say that because we have seen Castro like 20 times catching and redmond about 200 times. Castro is Actually very good defensively i dont think he has made an error while he has been here. He has a good arm, i have seen him throw long toss with Pudge. I know if we see Castro more he can be as good as any catcher defensively....

He'll be he first one to tell you that,

Also what do you mean we can't judge because we have only seen him "20 times" there is somthing called a scouting report. He's not nearly as good as redmond defensively.

The only ability that Castro passes Redmond is power. Redmond has better contact, glove, veteranship and even better speed. Not to mention Redmond is a "player coach" just like Mordacai. We have not seen much of Castro this year, like CapeFish said it's not enough time to see him slump or even to judge him. He has a career AVG. of 250..

Don't get me wrong though,so far Castro has been a good pinch hitter (This Year) but who knows he hasn't gotten many AB's.

Ramon is the better hitter, hands down. Deffensively he's solid too, that was the talk when they first brought him up a few years ago, that he was good deffensively but that they didn't expect much offensively because he played in a hitters league. He has proven his value hitting many more home runs than Red in at best half the at bats. Redmond has done ok and that's why management still have him at # 2, not because he's better on paper, but because he's proven his value for a long time and like the saying goes "if it ain't broke...".

Castro hasn't yet proven he's a better hitter then Redmond. If you look at the career stats. Redmond is the better hitter. Power hitting doesn't make a good hitter. Also I was mistaken in my above post....Castro is a career 230. hitter. Do you call that good hitting? This season Castro has been hitting well but he still hasn't had enough AB's. Redmond has always been a good contact hitter(Hits for Avg.)...Castro hasn't. You can't blindly say he's a better hitter because his AVG. is higher this year in limited AB's.

who says i'm basing it on this season alone. mention where i said that. look at last year too, in just 101 at bats he had 6 home runes. this year he has 3 in 44 at bats. in the minors he proved to be a good hitter too. castro brings the presence of a power hitter to the line up and more at bats can only help him. redmond is solid, he's a good player and i said that in my previous post and that's the reason why he's the #2 catcher, because he's proven himself in that role. but he's not a starter in this league, ask anyone and they'll tell you ramon castro deserves to start somewhere. all those teams contacting us about ramon, do you think they want him to play back up? there's a lot of things out there that would kill to have a starting catcher like ramon castro.

Castro blew his chance 3 or 4 years ago when management started him for an extended period and he hit like .180

Even so, I always thought we should shop Red to a contender as a #2 catcher. He has more trade value than RC, & a team like the Marlins really cannot afford to carry 3 catchers (altho we continue to do so).

Because Redmond is a good catcher and can manage pitchers better than Ramon. It was proven last season while CJ was out. redmond and Castro played alot of games and Redmond did better.

Castro is a better bench player than Redmond, so Red gets the start while Castro comes off the bench.

Actually, Redmond is the better bench player, and Castro is the better starter.

But either way, this was a stupid thread. Redmond is a career . 300 hitter, that's why he plays more than Castro.

Wild Card,

Redmond is the proven player, Castro had his chance and didn't do well. Remember before CJ came back? Redmond and Castro were the catchers and with alot of playing time, Redmond totally outperformed Castro.

Are you trying to say Redmond is better, because you can't argue the fact Ramon is the better player. Redmond is the career . 300 hitting vet, that's why he plays more than Castro.
