August 23, 200323 yr Has anyone noticed that the Fish have gone down hill since Beinfest got a contract extention through 2007? He's gone out and gotten some "veterans". Is this to prove the extention was worth it? Even though the Marlins won't go beyond one year contracts with their players? This team had jelled. They were winning. It seems to me that things started to go down right after they got Chad Fox. Was the chemistry ruined by adding one player? You never know but Beinfest should have left the team alone. I may be stretcing things a bit but it does make you wonder. I mean....how many right handed pitchers do you need? How about a lefty? The whole thing doesn't make sense. Is Beinfest trying to justify the extention? If so, he's screwed the team and himself at the same time. :banghead
August 24, 200323 yr Are you saying that Beinfest signing his extension was a bad thing? Because I personally felt like a kid on Christmas morning when I heard the news.
August 24, 200323 yr Beinfest's contract would have a good impact since it means the ownership is interested in keeping this team together. The front office must be kept together before you can keep the players together. The veterans have made no negative impact and were not with the team at the start of this slump .This is a nonpoint thread.
August 24, 200323 yr That was good we signed him through 2007! He is a great GM, the Extension doesnt have nothing to do with the team playing bad and the 2 veterans we got have experience and is a good asset to this club....
August 24, 200323 yr Yeah, too bad that the Marlins signed Beinfest long term. He's made so many terrible moves! How could they ever resign him? I can't believe he traded for Urbina and the trade for D-Train absolutely ruined us! And did I mention that signing I-Rod was the worst FA signing ever?
August 24, 200323 yr Breaking up the team chemistry? Good Grief! I suppose signing Uggy broke up the team chemistry...

It remains to be seen whether the Dontrelle trade was luck or skill. He did give up 2 quality MLB players and out of the 3 prospects he received, only 1 has had any MLB impact (and it's debatable if Dontrelle will have any staying power). Signing Ivan Rodriguez is no feather in Beinfeist's cap, either. I-Rod came here after every other MLB team told him that they would not sign him long-term, and he threatened to go to Japan. Not only that, but the contract Beinfeist signed him to was retarded. They gave a guy with no leverage whatsoever a contract that included a no-trade clause and a no-arbitration clause. The Marlins can't even get any draft picks (this is currently still in the collective bargaining agreement), when Rodriguez moves on to another team this offseason. I think extending Beinfeist was a mistake. Other than the Dontrelle trade, I haven't seen anything from him that suggests that he's anything other than a lucky GM. Any guy who would let Kevin Millar go for demanding $2.5 million/year and then sign Juan Encarnacion for $3.5 million is off his rocker.

Are you saying that Beinfest signing his extension was a bad thing? Because I personally felt like a kid on Christmas morning when I heard the news. Well, I wasn't that happy, but I was pleased at his re-signing as well. Beinfest has been blessed with a great combination this year - Combining knowledgable moves with a great deal of luck. But with this being said I think we'll really find out what he's made of this offseason. I truly believe that the future of this franchise in SoFLa hinges on the Marlins' FO moves this offseason.
August 25, 200323 yr the losing streak also started right when Beckett announced this team was going to be in the playoffs. Must be his fault too.... Chad Fox has given them a few solid outings, just the one bad one really.
