I want to buy something that I can use specifically for listening to music while I work out. That really is the only use I will have for the device.

If it's only 50-100 then you might as well go with the iPod shuffle. A lot cheaper since it holds less songs, but you won't have the screen to look at. The order would be the one you specified in the computer or you could put it on shuffle (what it's meant for, really).

If you're going for the Ipod or Ipod mini, I'd get it through Best Buy, The Apple Store is a pain in the ass to deal with, atleast the one by me is (i've seen/experienced really slow service, whether it's buying an ipod or the times i've gone in just to browse; due in part probably to the tons of people that are always in there)

 

Best Buy still carries the Apple warranty etc. , so you're getting the same product you would if you had bought it at the Apple store.

 

I've had a really good experience so far with my 20gb, bought it over a year ago and the battery is still going strong.

Err, apparently they don't sell Minis anymore.

 

Shuffle has two versions, 512 MB (120 songs) and 1 GB (240 songs). It doesn't have a screen, so you set the preset order in iTunes unless you want it to play at random, in case you can switch that option on the shuffle itself. Battery lasts up to 12 hours, and takes 4 hours to charge in full (2 hours for 80%). 512 will set you back $99 while the 1 GB will cost $129.

 

iPod Nano is the new Mini. Thing is absolutely tiny, and comes in four types (2 gigs white, 2 gigs black, 4 gigs white, 4 gigs black). 2 GB will hold 500 songs for you and the 4 gigs goes up to 1,000. This one lasts 14 hours of just music, or 4 hours of slideshows with music (that gets complicated). There is a screen so you can set a playlist and let it run, put it on shuffle, or manually select what songs you want to hear. Takes 3 hours to charge fully and 1.5 for 80%. 2 GB nanos (either color) are $199 and the 4 GB one (again, either color) $249.

 

I also recommend going to Best Buy because it's a lot more convenient and they should have all the different models available, plus someone that can tell you everything about them. There might even be a good deal now thanks to the holidays on one of them.

You must not have charged it fully before messing with it, that will stifle its battery life, but it should not be that small.

Well the 512 MB shuffle is only going to get you 120 songs while the 1GB shuffle will get you 240 songs. For that, you might as well spend the extra $$$ and get a 4GB iPod Nano ($250). The thing will hold 1,000 songs and is perfect for working out since its flash memory based.

Here's another thing that might catch your interest...

 

Ipods are great, personally I have the Ipod Nano and I just bought an iHome which lets me dock my Ipod and use it as an AM/FM transmitter as well for my house.....

 

but....there's also this....XM Satellite Radio.....there's a new one that you can use as a walkman and after you are done, just plug it in to your car....no installation needed.....it's something similar to this...

 

I mean, check out the ones from XM Radio...I can get you a good deal on those as a MLB employee if you are interested....

Best advice I can give you Admin is to not get one of those little portable Delphi ones that you need a tape deck or something to play. Sound quality is just okay and because it is set on a radio station, you'll lose the XM if you move out of the station area and have to scramble for another one. So the best thing is to probably look into the modular ones made by Terk for a Pioneer, Sony or any other head unit maker (The Brain is the same for all, but the adapter is different depending on your head unit).

 

 

However you decide to get the XM, it is well worth it. You'll hardly ever go back to listening to regular radio again.. :thumbup

I've actually had no problem going all throughout South Texas with my XM set to one FM station.

Hey I want the Ipod Nano............I've asked for it for Christmas!!!!!!

Of course we have decided to do a $100 limit per person, so I'll pay the balance of $150 because I want it and I get what I want. Hehe.

 

I'm going to use it at my office so we can listen to some great tunes and I'll be able to use it in the car, working out, or whenever! I am already feeling spoiled rotten.

 

So I guess you know what my suggestion is.
