December 2, 200520 yr I do think that Girardi was deceived. He expected to be taking over a winning ball club from Jack McKeon, but as it turns out, Jack left at the right time. I really also believe that the decision to destroy the team happened rather quickly, and has to have been a result of a power change in the Marlins' FO. It doesn't make any sense that Loria would change his strategy so suddenly if he was still in charge. Jack left one year too late, but IMO, Giradi was not deceived. Everyone knew, including many on this forum, that Lowell would try to be packaged together. Whether it was Burnette/Lowell during the summer or ?/Lowell in the off-season, it was going to have to be proven pitcher to force someone to take Lowell's contract. Just looking at this team, we all had a feeling that Lowell gone Enc gone Conine gone Jones gone AGon gone Mota gone and combine with lack of "D" at 1B, I was not surprised at this move either. This team is just going through a turnover like the Indians did a few years ago. This move will pay off for Loria
December 2, 200520 yr I think the most telling comment is that when he came aboard, he said that he wanted to win with us instead of overseeing a rebuilding in Tampa. Girardi doesn't have the clout to bitch his way out of his contract, but there is no doubt in my mind that he was blindsided by the flurry of activity over Thanksgiving. I'm going to refrain from saying he was "lied to" since I doubt he received any guarantees, but I do think he was deceived. Thank you.....
December 2, 200520 yr Author theoretically, it's still a job that is closer to the playoffs, since we're not in the same division as the Red Sox and Yankees as TB is...

It has been for years. This is the most appropriae time for it to come. To those who did not see that are deluding themselves.
December 2, 200520 yr If I was Girardi, I would not bail-out now, here is a chance to become a manager,a possible chance to turn this team into a star, and your self. And if Im right in saying, would also make your self more money.
December 2, 200520 yr hasn't it been established already that Girardi had full knowledge that there were going to be payroll cuts? in every industry "payroll cuts" means letting people go. he knew about this. and you know what, i bet jack knew about this to and that helped in his resignation. people are just trying to create controversy.
December 2, 200520 yr Some people don't want to believe he knew. Because it adds support to their cause.
December 5, 200520 yr Did Girardi have any clue the team would be completely dismantled? I'm sure he knew a few key parts would be traded......but did he see this coming? I can't wait to hear his next comments.
December 5, 200520 yr I can almost guarantee that Girardi didn't have any clue that he'd probably be the best catcher on the '06 team. :confused

December 5, 200520 yr His previous comments suggest that his next comments will prove your case wrong.
December 5, 200520 yr That is a bad move by the fish but maybe they didnt know the team was getting gutted when they hired him

Hey, you may be onto something there. He can probably still hit better than Treanor and play better defense than Willingham. Nice. :hat

"We talked about that when I first met with them. They said they had to do some things they felt would make their club better for a long time." There's a big difference between doing some things, and blowing the whole damn thing up. I guess we'll see what he has to say during the week, given that at the time of the trade, it appears that the necessary payroll purging was completed. I don't think anyone saw a complete tear-down coming. Even the tone of the article seemed to suggest that we were done after Delgado.
December 5, 200520 yr The tone of an article is reflected of the beat writer's opinions, not necessarily the people he quotes.
December 5, 200520 yr The tone of an article is reflected of the beat writer's opinions, not necessarily the people he quotes. I agree with you there. However, the lack of comments from Girardi to the local media (this is from the NY Times) and regarding this latest set of moves is somewhat eye-raising...
