December 2, 200520 yr if a stadium deal is in place and ground is broken, loria will not simply trade off cabrera and willis. guaranteed. That's the biggest "if" of all-time. That's King Kong If, Godzilla If. But I agree.
December 2, 200520 yr *hands in the air* *looking at sky* What did we do to have yet another firesale? . . . . What did we do to deserve having the team leave? . . . . What did we do to deserve all this? . . . . What is it? . . . . The answer is quite simple my friend, the answer my friend is blowing in the wind . . .
December 2, 200520 yr I think it's that we were so blinded by optimism that we neglected to remember who we had in the front office. These guys did kill one professional franchise with a much richer history than ours, so it's not like gutting a team with an apathetic fan base was really difficult. true
December 3, 200520 yr if a stadium deal is in place and ground is broken, loria will not simply trade off cabrera and willis. guaranteed. Those are some pretty big "ifs" considering everything that has happened since the inception. My bet is both Willlis and Cabrera will be traded for "can't miss" prospects before they reach free agency.
December 3, 200520 yr this is gonna be a fun season. it may be painful in the standings but it will be fun to watch. just gotta fill some things out, got plenty of time to do so. should be fun. Are those things you refer to being filled out prescriptions for painkillers? If so, then yeah, they'll be fun to watch. :whistle :lol Sorry I need to find some humor in something
December 3, 200520 yr Honestly, I'm having a real hard time being excited about our prospects. Some don't seem impressive at all. Some do seem to have potential but...it is fun to watch young players develop but not when you're thinking that by the time it all comes to fruition they will be someone else's great players. Those 2 WS championships were unbelievable and 2003 was just a magical year that I will treasure and relive for the rest of my life. What's hard to stomach is the emotional roller coaster. It's even harder the second time around. There is just too much d?j? vu going on here.
December 3, 200520 yr I would rather watch a mediocre team with young kids who try than watch a mediocre team with veterans who feel sorry for themselves. The only thing that sucks about the upcoming season (aside from the relocation crap every opposing fan is going to shove down our throats) is that the stadium will be empty.

I'd rather watch those young kids with some experience around them to bring them along. Having young, hungry kids around doesn't have to come with a complete dismantling and the concern that they might be pushed too early. And it's kind of hard to put the "relocation crap" aside.
December 3, 200520 yr Because we have been more fortunate than just about any other baseball fan in the country. You know how many fans would kill to have a new team come into the league and then win a World Championship just five years later? Or for that matter, gut the team and wait another 5 years before winning another one? If only the people of South Florida would see all of this.

Beinfest today admitted "we are going to continue to be active during the upcoming winter meetings"....which as far as I can tell is a euphemism for trading both Pierre and LoDuca. I now believe this team will be competing for the worst record in MLB next year. We have gaping holes in the infield, a very inexperienced rotation and bullpen and possibly a rookie catcher behind the plate. We are going to be fielding the equivalent of a AAA team by all accounts......an on-field payroll of less than $15M.....sheesh. The only reason I can see Loria doing this is because he is flat broke. He has no money to put into a stadium deal. Cutting payroll by $50M so he can put most of that in his pocket next year. Perhaps that is the only way he can come up with the resources necessary to pull off a stadium deal....because from all accounts it did sound like he was trying to forge a deal with little to no money down.

We are going to be fielding the equivalent of a AAA team by all accounts......an on-field payroll of less than $15M.....sheesh. And yet my Amex bill clearly indicates that I'm paying major league prices for my season ticket package. It seems to me the FO should be thinking the last people that deserve to get screwed in all this are the loyal fans who renewed their tickets.
December 3, 200520 yr I say that we bring back De "Loss" Santos and make him a starter. That....would be......awesome.

With all due respect, PB, if you believe that this is a way for Loria to kick more money into a stadium proposal. I've got ocean front property in Colorado to sell you. This may be a way for Loria to have more money to spend on the pending free agent class of '07, but honestly, if you're going to trade away LoDuca and Castillo, two players who are both under affordable contracts and worth the money they're earning, I see no reason to expect this. I hope I'm wrong, though... And I agree with strike, I have a hard time getting excited about the players we got back, because every single one seems to have some glaring imperfection upon close inspection. I'm not a big fan of saying that turning over pretty much our entire lineup from '05 brings us a whole bunch of "could be's." Plus, it's debateable that we got anything back (aside from Jacobs) who is unquestionably major league ready for '06.

But the fact remains Loria is going to have to put up some cash regardless of whether it is in South Florida, Las Vegas, Portland or where ever.
