Why baseball gods, why? Wasn't 1998 enough punishment? What did we do to deserve two meh seasons from underachieving prima donas? What did we do to have yet another firesale? What did we do to deserve having the team leave? What did we do to deserve people like Loria, Beinfest and Samson in our front office? What did we do to deserve all this? Was it because we beat the Cubs? Was it because small market team aren't supposed to beat the big boys? Was it the teal? Was it the mermaids? Was it having a small market team outbid a New York team? Was it the use of the state name and not the city name on the uniform? What is it? We give up, we surrender. No fanbase in the baseball world deserves punishment like this.

2 World Championships in such a small timeframe. We're getting the bad with the good.

So true...

I think it's that we were so blinded by optimism that we neglected to remember who we had in the front office. These guys did kill one professional franchise with a much richer history than ours, so it's not like gutting a team with an apathetic fan base was really difficult.

It sucks that Florida is not working out for baseball. I think the fish have the coolest name/logos/jerseys out of all the teams yesterday and today... Of course, I might just be saying that because I am a fan. Maybe other teams' fans think otherwise. Yup.

At least Cubs fans don't have to worry about losing their team.

Or a firesale every 5 years.

Because you did not help the Yukon Federation conquer the rest of Canada

Seriously because the world sucks, life sucks, and only Boston, NY, Chicago and LA will get teams that care back.

or winning in october

I wish that the Braves could suck for many years and then they would have to move. My Dad went to a game back in the '80s and he said it was a nice day and yet the only fans there were crowded around the backstop. Of course, I think TBS has helped them get some fans by brainwashing all the "Friends" fans.

You know I might be in the minority here but I actually prefer our history in the time we've existed compared to the Cubs in that same timeframe. 2 world championships is better than finding a way to fall short every year.

entire infield is gone.

virtually the entire starting bullpen from last year will be gone.

we'll likely have 3 new starting outfielders next season.

& yeah Admin I'll take the good with the bad, but it sure does make for an emotionally unstable fan!

How about this for crazy.

Compared with the 2005 opening day, we will have a new starter at every position, including starting pitcher and closer.

And, Admin, I know what you mean about the two titles, but what I want more than anything (and watching YES really makes me jealous) is to be the fan of a team that made an effort every season to win...not, chug along, chug along, chug along *kaboom*!!!!

I'm jealous of the teams that have hot stove talk every offseason, I'm jealous of the fans that can buy a jersey of their favorite player and not wonder if it's going to be outdated next season, and I'm sick and tired of only having greatness in spurts.

I'd trade both titles (yes, both) for the chance to be a winner year in and year out and not have to deal with this constant off-field insecurity.

ditto completely.

I wouldn't trade either title for anything.

I agree.

The memories from 2003 will never be equalled. That seems so long ago.

I'm not saying give them back, I'm saying doesn't having the titles sting more now that you know winning is a long way away?

For me, I'd almost say that experiencing such an incredible high like 2003 just makes this low even worse.

You shouldn't get addicted to habits you can't afford, and as a fan of this franchise, I almost wish I never knew what such incredible success felt like because it doesn't give me any solace looking back, it just makes me feel worse knowing that going forward will never be as sweet as we had hoped. So much for a "renaissance."

Loria must sell the team in order for this franchise to survive....

thanks for 03 we will always love you for that Mr.Loria and now let us love you once more for selling the team to someone that can finally get us a stadium and acually keep the Key players we pick-up......

this is gonna be a fun season. it may be painful in the standings but it will be fun to watch.

just gotta fill some things out, got plenty of time to do so. should be fun.

Are those things you refer to being filled out prescriptions for painkillers? If so, then yeah, they'll be fun to watch. :whistle

Mr. Arriola -- is that you? I could tell because of your perfect spelling and punctuation....

Dunno, I thought winning was probably decades away after the '97 firesale...

Not saying it will happen anywhere close to that again, but nice to know it can!

not really. i mean there is nothing more exciting than watching kids proving themselves, making a name for themselves and establishing their careers as a big league ballplayer.

happened with 35 and 20. will happen again.

sure i'd love for more veterans around these kids, but it is what it is. i fully expect a youthful exuberance on thsi team, something that if you truly love baseball you will enjoy.

Yes, but Cabrera is now the veteran influence in the club-house (scary huh?). I hope that doesn't trickle down.

And, perhaps I'm alone in this, but I think it's down right sick that we're watching a team develop, only to have it taken away from us (either literally or figuratively) before it's past it's time.

The Marlins had a rebuilding plan in place, they didn't stay the course because 2003 offerd a much welcomed jump, and they deviated from their plan of avoiding luxury items while keeping in-house options around. Now, we're going to watch them grow up, and they either finish their growing in Vegas or they're blown up again in Miami...it's a viscious cycle.

well if they are to stay in the Miami area, they need to build them a stadium. its not really that difficult to grasp the complexity of that situation.

Oh, it is quite difficult to grasp the situation when the ownership you have doesn't even figure to be able to afford a player's complete arbitration years, nor do they have a negotiator who is well liked by any party he's ever come in contact with. There will be no new stadium for this team ready anywhere in the next two years, so this tear down cycle will happen at least once more before we as fans can finally hang our hats on the ability of the franchise to be competitive.

Barring a miracle, we'll be going through this in a year or two with Dontrelle and Cabrera, or just the entire franchise heading out to Vegas.
