Jeff Allison.

Can he possibly with his upside be the next Josh Beckett? I can't get over the fact that we dealt Beckett, and I was wondering if we will ever bring up someone with that kind of upside? Can Allison be the one, and if anybody who?

Anibal Sanchez is probably the most comparable upside to Beckett in our system.

I'm not saying he's the next Beckett or anything, but he'd be the most likely to come close.

I'd say Volstad has the most upside in our system, or the kind of upside Beckett had anyway. He will prob be in the rotation in 07, by all accounts he is already almost MLB ready.

If he was already almost MLB ready, he wouldn't be going to Greensboro next season.

Bingo.

If Allison stayed away from drugs he could have been better than either Beckett or Burnett given his amazing high-school numbers. To count on him now is a bit premature, he's lucky to still be alive, the fact that he's still able to pitch is simply a plus.

Sanchez probably has the highest upside, Petit may be the most ready, and Olsen has some of the most intriguing numbers (but then again, I think the strikeout is overrated), but all are flawed. Sanchez has had odd health issues (nerve damage in his throwing arm), Petit knows how to get hitters out but lacks a plus-plus pitch, and Olsen weighs about 120 soaking wet with his pockets full of change, leading to durability concerns, and he's already been shut down for shoulder issues.

If you were to tell me to pick a pitcher who by 2008 would be comparable to Beckett, I'd go with Sanchez, but that's not to say that any of the aforementioned names couldn't do it

Come on, that's an exaggeration! He's more like 90 pounds. :plain

From what I've heard, Ungs is the next big thing.

So big that he's unprotected for the rule V.

Just saying what I've heard from a combination of sources, hombre. Don't be hatin.

I don't know how it works but according to the Marlins website - 40 man roster - only 35 players are listed, including all players traded for except the LoDuca trade.

Maybe we haven't figured out how to put 20 minor league pitchers into 5 spots.

Im a fan of Nic Ungs, but right now he is going to have to impress in ST just to make the team

then again, he could be picked up in the Rule V

From what I saw of Allison last year his fastball wasn't really there. Not much movement on it either. Maybe it was just him wearing off the rust cause the two starts I saw for him were earlier on in the season

If he does become he still has a ton of work to do both on and off the field, but the fact he was able to make it a season(although with a couple injuries) is at least a positive that he's taking his life in the right direction
