TSwift25
4 years $52 mil according to ESPNews. That's a bit high, IMO, but can't say that it's completely out of line for this market place, or the Yankees.

TSwift25
I've also got to say, this is surprising to me since it takes them completely out of the Torii Hunter sweepstakes next offseason...and he's a guy the Yankees have obsessed over for 2+ seasons. i was the first to break the story to you guys not espnews. :thumbup Give yourself a big pat on the back. MarlinFan10
The Yankees are insane. Damon won't be worth more than 13 million a year 3 or 4 years from now.
MrAndMrsFish
This is a big move by the Yankees you know they couldn't go this late into the offseason without making such a big splash......i think they might have overpaid but the yanks have a new CF

Gotta love the Yankees and their love of guys on the decline and not thinking to the future. They are a train wreck waiting to happen. Nah, they'll always be able to throw good money after bad. I had this conversation with a Yankee friend of mine (and it's pretty true). The Yankees and Red Sox, unlike the Mets, will always be fine as far as big money teams go. All three spend unimaginable sums of money, but with the Yankees and Red Sox, they go free agent shopping at Tiffanys. So even if they are in the back end of their careers when the contracts are up, they're still better than half of the players at the same position. The Mets overpay for a lot of mid-level talent or players in the twilight of their careers (or at least they did until this offseason), so they just end up being old and expensive. At least the Yankees and Red Sox get a player (generally) while they're still considered 'elite' and just have to guarantee that extra year or two to get them to sign. Also, the Yankees have big contracts expiring at different stages (like Posada and Sheffield at the end of this season, Johnson nex season), so they have pretty good "payroll flexibility" for a big money club. Skully
Where's Passion? I'm curious to see what he thinks about this... As for me, this disgusts me. I consider myself a Red Sox fan.. After the Marlins and Giants, the Sox are the team I like the most. To me, Johnny Damon was the face of the team when they won the World Series (along with Big Papi, Manny Ramirez, and Curt Schilling)... I hate watching marquee players go to their rivals (I.E - Jeff Kent playing for the Dodgers).. Although at least Kent waited a few years. Damon is going straight from Boston to New York.. I threw up a little when I read this on ESPNEWS..
Dodge
What did you guys expect though? Rivalries? Rivalries are fabricated by ESPN. Professional sports is nothing but a cash cow.

I think ESPN tries to create rivalries.. But rivalries like Yanks/Red Sox and Giants/Dodgers are genuine. These date back years and years... Dodge
I wouldn't say so much anymore. I mean, they have heated moments for sure, but so does every other team.
