August 31, 200322 yr Conine would've cost us DLee a month ago. Maybe the price has come down. He's a 10-5 man this off-season so Baltimore won't be able to trade him after this month even if they wanted to. We need to do something. Maybe we can bring up Gerald Williams to play LF. It would cost us any chance at the Wild Card but at least we wouldn't have to listen to Arnie talk about Williams' AAA stats anymore. Wait a second... if Conine and Batista were put on waivers and they cleared them, they can be had without giving anyone in return, right? Those are the rules or am I mistaken? If that is the case, I prefer Conine, big time. Move Cabrera to 3rd and put Conine in LF, now we are talking. BTW, Lowell would see a hand specialist tomorrow. The metacarpal bone below the ring finger might not be that broken... or so I hope. It seems like I am praying for a miracle. He might be in time for the playoffs, if there are any. September is going to be a tough month without him... :banghead
August 31, 200322 yr WildCard, I'm not arguing what will happen to Lee I'm stating that When Lee is gone Conine will be the replacement. If we don't get Conine tommorrow, we aren't getting him at all. Yes,I know that. What's your point? But you have to agree that If we decide not to stick with the bench that Conine is the best option. He is relatively cheap,a solid player that provides veteranship, and he could ignite the Interest of more fans. He can be a big financial help also. I agree, Mr. Marlin is a quality, versatile veteran and a Marlins fan favorite. But, bottom-line... we're going nowhere if our starters don't bring it up a level, at least to the level of Pierre and Castillo.
August 31, 200322 yr Wait a second... if Conine and Batista were put on waivers and they cleared them, they can be had without giving anyone in return, right? Those are the rules or am I mistaken? I think you're mistaken. They've cleared waivers so it means they can be traded. It doesn't mean anybody can just pluck them off the Orioles roster whenever they like. Here's how I think it works:The Orioles put Conine on waivers A team can claim Conine. If more that one team claims Conine, the AL team with the worse record is the claim that counts. If no AL team claims him, the NL team with the worse record who claimed him has the claim that counts. If a team has claimed Conine, the Orioles can let that team have Conine and the remainder of his contract. Or the Orioles can take Conine off waivers and keep him. If no team claims Conine, the Orioles retain his rights but they are now free to trade him even though the trading deadline has passed. BTW, Lowell would see a hand specialist tomorrow. The metacarpal bone below the ring finger might not be that broken... or so I hope. It seems like I am praying for a miracle. He might be in time for the playoffs, if there are any. I don't see how the news from the hand specialist can be any better than what we've gotten so far. I'm afraid it'll be much worse, that he'll need surgery and he won't even be available for the playoffs. But I share your sentiments.
August 31, 200322 yr Reggie Sanders Was Claimed by LA. Pitts has Today to either Pull him back, let him go, work a trade with LA. I think Jeff Conine is our Best Option....
August 31, 200322 yr I think Jeff Conine is our Best Option.... Finally someone agrees with me....He is the best option. He can help us in the short term AND In the Long run(while Reggie Sanders can't) by replacing Lee(Who will be gone by opening day next year.). Conine would also be the biggest help finacially because he is cheap and would spark the Interest in more fans resulting in a slight attendance boost. We also need his veteranship.
August 31, 200322 yr FloridaMarlins.com has a video clip and audio clip of the Lowell HBP for free. Video is in 56k and 300k from FSN Florida. Audio is 16k from WQAM.
August 31, 200322 yr Conine has had nagging injuries and would take a while to hit NL pitching.... the O's have also said they would like him to be back next year(this was about 1.5 months ago)
August 31, 200322 yr I like Banks better at Left than Nunez and im Sure McKeon does too. If we won with Banks there why not let him stay in Left.
