August 31, 200322 yr Why would we release a potential . 290, 40 HR, 100 RBI, gold glove 1B (in another stadium) and get nothing for him, when we can trade him? WildCard, I'm not arguing what will happen to Lee I'm stating that When Lee is gone Conine will be the replacement.

He is relatively cheap,a solid player that provides veteranship, and he could ignite the Interest of more fans. He can be a big financial help also.
August 31, 200322 yr Here are quotes posted tonight from Expos fans on other message boards, just to see what a couple of their fans think. "way to go Almonte. Almonte did his job for a change. Don't forget they nailed Zeile in the 4th inning so we got even..." "the Marlins are getting no tears at all for me. Hopefully this dampens the mood in the Florida clubhouse and allows the Expos to win the next two games, WITHOUT losing one of our guys. You know there will be retaliation though." "Finally Almonte does something right! Honestly, I don't feel bad about being glad the guy is hurt at all. The Marlins piss me off so much - hopefully others will soon join him on DL."

August 31, 200322 yr I WANNA SLAP THE S*** OUT OF THE PPL WHO SAID THAT!!! SPOKEN BY TRU DUMBAS**** :angry
August 31, 200322 yr But you have to agree that besides sticking with the bench that Conine is the best option. He is relatively cheap,a solid player that provides veteranship, and he could ignite the Interest of more fans. He can be a big financial help also. I still think Sanders is the best option. He's cheaper, having just as good a season, doesn't have to adjust to the NL the least bit, and is younger. Conine might be the best option for the future, but for now it's gotta be Sanders.

Good points he would be good for short term purposes,But Sanders hasn't yet cleared waivers so I doubt we will aquire him.
August 31, 200322 yr "Finally Almonte does something right! Honestly, I don't feel bad about being glad the guy is hurt at all. The Marlins piss me off so much - hopefully others will soon join him on DL." This quote in particular erks me. If you don't feel the least bit sorry he's out, you don't deserve to have good health yourself. We only piss him off because we kill them. And to say hoperfully the others will join him on the DL soon is absolutely disgusting. Do you have the link, so I can retaliate in defense of this team?
August 31, 200322 yr I forgot to add that I don't want to stereotype the Expos fans based an a few moron's opinions, but some of the crap going on is just pathetic. Anyways, I hope some kind of confidence-building move is made in the next 24 hours, and get well soon Mikey!
August 31, 200322 yr examine nunez's numbers. then get back to me. fools. Can we put our trust in a guy that has a career average of .118 in the majors to replace our mvp and most feared hitter? I'd feel much better getting a veteran. I know Nunez has done well this year in AAA, but AAA is just that AAA not the majors.
August 31, 200322 yr Not a big fan of sanders but he is defintely doin better the 2nd half of the season(307avg 14homers and 35rbis compared to 260avg 15homers and 37rbis) and his done that ina lot less games. has been pretty consistent so far this half compared to the 1st half where he was very streaky. still a streaky hitter though
August 31, 200322 yr examine nunez's numbers. then get back to me. fools. I've seen the numbers. I just don't know if he can get used to ML and automatically start RIGHT when he gets here.
August 31, 200322 yr examine nunez's numbers. then get back to me. fools. Das, We are discussing about aquiring a player from waivers because McKeon mentioned in an article that the FO was discussing about claiming players off waivers.Anyway promoting Abe Nunez would be a major risk. What If he doesn't perform up to expectations? Then what?
August 31, 200322 yr you dont have the luxury of replacing lowell with an all star. this is what your minor leagues are for. there is ZERO chance you replace lowell with someone of near or equal talent. as far as abe's career numbers.....he has had limited at bats...you cannot put much worth into them.
August 31, 200322 yr what if your 'veteran' doesnt perform up to expectations. you are taking a chance no matter what you do.
August 31, 200322 yr what if your 'veteran' doesnt perform up to expectations. you are taking a chance no matter what you do. you are taking a much bigger risk with an unproven minor league player and you know that. Especially in this big of a situation. Conine and Sanders have been in big situations and are proven big league players.
August 31, 200322 yr what if your 'veteran' doesnt perform up to expectations. you are taking a chance no matter what you do. Good point.
August 31, 200322 yr veterans cost you prospects. you have to figure in that cost as well, not just the on the field cost. if you are going balls out to win, not giving a damn about the cost then go for it. if you are also keeping the future in mind...then maybe not.
August 31, 200322 yr put nunez in left. cabrera at third. move on. Congratulations, the only one using common sense around here. We cannot afford to go out and trade for a guy I think. We might have to give up too much...but then again, what do I know. I am fine with Nunez in LF and Cabrera at 3B. Give H-worth some PT as well. It is going to be interesting, but I am very curious to see how this team responds. No excuses should be tolerated.
August 31, 200322 yr what a night eh? this will either make or break us.... no thanks on Conine, alot of nagging injuries recently, and he is in the AL
August 31, 200322 yr I just cant believe some of the ideas being thrown around here. Why would we get Conine? He is not going to play LF, or if he does his D is going to be a little bit of a liability and his offense is not going to make up for it. Nunez is a much better risk in my opinion. This guy has speed/power ability and we need to get him some PT to figure out what to do with him anyway. Das, you are the only one here using common sense. I dont see us acquiring someone to replace Lowell, period. We have to make due with what is left and a lot of luck.
August 31, 200322 yr people are trying to live in a fantasy world. think reality. expect someone getting called up before tomorrow's game. i am sure whatever outfielder that is has already gotten the call. it will be either williams, allen or nunez. we have seen what williams and allen can do for us this year.
