August 31, 200322 yr F*%$*ING ALMONTE! This is devastating. You could tell Mike knew how bad it was when he went right to the ground. He almost had tears in his eyes too, probably knew it was the end of his season. Just pisses me off so much....
August 31, 200322 yr We need to do something. Maybe we can bring up Gerald Williams to play LF. It would cost us any chance at the Wild Card but at least we wouldn't have to listen to Arnie talk about Williams' AAA stats anymore. Thats what i have been saying. Bring up Williams and put him in Left and put cabrera at 3rd. Its that simple...Um, you realize I was being sarcastic, don't you? Gerald Williams is hitting a combined .102 over the last 3 years against major league pitching. I think that counts a lot more than hitting .300 for the Isotopes. You're out of your mind if you think Gerald Williams can replace Mike Lowell's bat. If that's our solution, the season is probably over.
August 31, 200322 yr We should just wait and see yes sanders and conine will be nice but i don't think beinfest will do that we're gonna bring up those callups to replace lowell's bat.
August 31, 200322 yr put nunez in left. cabrera at third. move on. Would you rather give-up a pair of minor leaguers who probably won't affect our future to get a 30+ HR LF, or start Abe right when he gets here?
August 31, 200322 yr From rotoworld:Mike Lowell likely will miss at least four weeks with a broken hand suffered tonight. A very costly injury, but better it happened tonight than Monday. This way, the Marlins could acquire a left fielder and move Miguel Cabrera back to third base. Even if they don't pick up an outfielder, it's likely that Cabrera will be their third baseman in September. Todd Hollandsworth would get his old job back once he comes off the disabled list.
August 31, 200322 yr "McKeon noted that the Marlins' front office was working the phones, and could possibly make a waiver deal by Sunday, the last day before postseason rosters are set." This is a passage from the article. Article from Marlins offical webpage
August 31, 200322 yr I strongly believe that Beinfest is working on aquiring Conine. It's the best option.
August 31, 200322 yr I think we're headed for sanders after playing at pittsburgh and seeing sanders we're definitely going after him.
August 31, 200322 yr I think we're headed for sanders after playing at pittsburgh and seeing sanders we're definitely going after him. Sanders hasn't even cleared waivers yet. There is no doubt that Conine is the best way to handle this situation.

August 31, 200322 yr Sanders hasn't even cleared waivers yet. There is no doubt that Conine is the best way to handle this situation. No, Sanders is. You're expecting Conine to adjust to the NL again in a month? Plus, they want Lee. Sanders is cheap, and is already in the NL. He's also been around, so adjusts well to new environments.
August 31, 200322 yr I think Conine would be a great a pickup. His a vetran with experience of being in a playoff race. Plus hes having a solid season 289avg 15homers 79rbis along wit 33 2bs. The only question how much money would we have to pay him and I think he has one more year on his contract. Does any1 know for sure?? :unsure :

Conine could help us not just this season but next season as a replacement for Lee who will likely be realesed in the off-season.

He's also been around, so adjusts well to new environments. Good point about Sanders knowing the NL pitchers. Bad point about the Orioles wanting Lee. How do you know that? They supposedly wanted Lee last month. How do you know they'd still insist on Lee? If they don't trade Conine before the end of the season, they won't be able to trade him in the off-season; he'll become a 10-5 player and can reject any deal so they'll be stuck with his contract. They may take a marginal prospect at this point.

He's also been around, so adjusts well to new environments. with interleague and players moving around so much I think switching leagues is over rated. I might be a little worried if conine was a young player but he is a veteran who's played in both leagues and knows the pitchers. Also, we would not have to give up Lee, I don't see why everyone thinks that we would still have to give up Lee, when the orioles were just asking for prospects when trying to trade him to other teams.
August 31, 200322 yr Conine could help us not just this season but next season as a replacement for Lee who will likely be realesed in the off-season. Why would we release Lee? He'd be traded...
August 31, 200322 yr If Sanders hasn't cleared waivers by now, I don't know if it would be possible if he could clear them by the deadline.

August 31, 200322 yr If Sanders hasn't cleared waivers by now, I don't know if it would be possible if he could clear them by the deadline. Exactly. Some people aren't understanding that after the trade deadline players need to clear waivers.
August 31, 200322 yr but you never know who has gone through waivers since that article was written. You notice on that list Rondell White and Brian Giles hadn't been put through waivers yet and they have been traded. We'll just have to wait and see.
August 31, 200322 yr Traded or released Conine would replace him. Why would we release a potential . 290, 40 HR, 100 RBI, gold glove 1B (in another stadium) and get nothing for him, when we can trade him?
