Time to come forward

When times are rough, certain players need to step it up. This obviously qualifies as a rough time. We get to find out who the players are, and who the unworthy bitches are.

Need to Step Up

Derrek Lee

Alex Gonzalez

Juan Encarnacion (just started tonight)

Brian Banks

If at least two of these guys (hopefully three) can get the bats warm, we can survive, and hope for the playoffs. Pending the situation in LF and assuming Banks starts, this is a test for him. He gets to show us and the team if he can be a suitable replacement for Lee next year. Gonzalez can show us if he's worth signing to keep around for another 2-3 years. Juan really just needs to stay consistant and we'll be fine. Derrek has the biggest test ahead. Statistically, this is when he is best. In September, when the year has been lost and the pressure is gone. Well, now alot of the pressure on Mike is on him. He needs to show if he can step up and power us.

I'm sorry if I rambled, but you get my point. To be successful, these guys need to be big.

Derek and Encarnacion were starting to heat up even though Lee went 0-3 today. Banks has always hit good with us when we need him...but they do need to step up!

dont forget about the middle relief crew. any news on what the plan is for 3b with Mikey out for the reg season?

I think pudge's problem is that he's to far from homeplate,if he will get closer he will get out of his slump.

don't forget pudge, who has to break out of his own slump.

I thought about putting Pudge on the list, but I didn't, only because he has always stepped-up when it's needed most (hence the . 405 average with RISP).

damn, WC put Derreck in a list of possible bitches. welcome to the realist side (it aint pretty, you'll be deperessed most of the time.)

Nobody knows the 3B/LF situation as opf now, but over the next day it should get interesting.

Wild Card.

our best option is probably Miggy @ 3rd and a Strugglesworth/Banker platoon in LF. but you never know what callup might get hot down the stretch.

Well, this might also be a tryout for Nunez as much as Banks.

Abe could show the FO that he can be a good starter, and is worthy of a starting gig next year. He certainly has the talent. In essence, Brian and Abe are competing for a starting job for this year and next year.

Marlins' Lowell Out at Least Four Weeks

1 hour, 48 minutes ago

By MARK LONG, AP Sports Writer

MIAMI - Florida Marlins (news) All-Star third baseman Mike Lowell (news) will miss the rest of the regular season after breaking his left hand Saturday night, an injury that could cripple the team's chances of staying atop the NL wild-card race.

Florida's cleanup hitter and clubhouse leader broke a bone in his hand when he was hit by a fastball from Montreal reliever Hector Almonte in the eighth inning. Lowell dropped to the ground in pain and was holding his wrist and hand as trainers escorted him off the field. X-rays revealed the break.

"It's a tough blow, but this is a good ballclub," Marlins manager Jack McKeon said. "I think these guys will pick up the slack for Mike, battle the rest of the way and hope he's back for the playoffs."

Team doctors said Lowell will miss about four weeks ? meaning he will be out for the rest of the regular season ? but he will see a hand specialist Sunday to better determine the severity of the injury and possible treatments.

"I know it's a freak thing, but I still feel like I'm letting the guys down," Lowell said. "We've got to grind it out and see what happens. ... We're going to move on. It's not like we're going to cancel the next 20 or so games."

Lowell leads the Marlins with 32 home runs and 105 RBIs and was batting .277. He has become one of the league's top defensive third basemen and one of the main reasons Florida was tied with Philadelphia for the wild-card spot.

"Anytime you take somebody out of the middle of the lineup, it's a crushing blow," Montreal outfielder Brad Wilkerson said. "But things happen. It's a pretty big loss for them."

Without Lowell, McKeon said he likely would move left fielder Miguel Cabrera to third and use a platoon of players in the vacant outfield position. The manager said roster moves also might help fill the void.

"We can't feel sorry for ourselves," McKeon said. "Somebody's got to pick up the slack. We've got plenty of options there. That's no problem."

PUT UP OR SHUT UP

Because Cabs is 20-years-old, and isn't extected to put up the big numbers.

If he does , that's great. But you can't EXPECT a rookie to step-up...

  • Author

so why should he bat cleanup?

Hitting well over . 300 with RISP, and he'll get more of those situations hitting 4th. He's an RBI machine, even more so than Pudge and Encarnacion, considering his RBI total in his limited at-bats. He's got more power than Pudge and Juan.

And it's not like if he fails (don't think he will) he can't be replaced by Juan or Derrek.

Juan Encarnacion (just started tonight)

Two of them stepped up today. Not including Pudge, who came up big.

D-Lee with the big HR, and Bankers going 2-4.

Lee is starting to get hot and is being our number 4 hitter the way he has hit. We need his bat to be hot if we reach the Playoffs with Lowell out. Lee and Pudge would be our core hitters.
