August 31, 200323 yr With Lowell out there are many possible courses of action: 1) Leave Cabs in LF and acquire/promote a 3B 2) Switch Cabs around from LF/3B and use our bench for the next 3 weeks to cover 3) Move Cabs to third and acquire/promote an OF From Jack's comments it appears he will move Cabrera to 3rd and use what we have off the bench for NOW. "Without Lowell, McKeon said he likely would move left fielder Miguel Cabrera to third and use a platoon of players in the vacant outfield position. The manager said roster moves also might help fill the void." c/o espn.com Banks will do fine as the interim OF, but we would all like to see a slugger acquired to fill Lowell's HR void. Another important thing to watch is how Cabrera handles 3B. He looked good there in the games I saw him play the spot, but also looked somewhat green. Lowell was the best defensive 3B in the game, so this hole at 3B will hurt quite a bit as well. *Matt Erickson is probably not the answer at 3B, but hes hitting .336 @ Albuquerque with a .900OPS and went (4-5, 2 2B, 3B) last night. I hope hes a callup tomrrow.
August 31, 200323 yr I saw in an article from MLB.com that we even have Lenny Harris as an option somewhere. I say Cabs at third, Banks in LF.
August 31, 200323 yr I think there are more OFs available than 3B, so we'll probably move Cabrera to the infield. Our organization doesn't have a ready 3B, other than Cabrera. Chris Donnels is not the answer. Our depth, such as it is, is in the OF with Hollandsworth, Banks, Gerald Williams, Chad Allen, and Abe Nunez. I think for today, we go with Banks in LF. And I think we should have Williams and Nunez on a plane to Fort Lauderdale. My preference is probably Conine, but can he still play LF? Does he still move well enough? Hollandsworth has been terrible as a starter all year. Banks has done a few nice things, but overall his numbers are pretty bad. Nunez would be interesting but that would mean we're depending on 3 rookies (Nunez, Cabrera, and Willis). 3 rookies does not give me warm fuzzies during a Wild Card chase. No matter what we do, we're not going to replace Lowell's production with his replacement. We have to hope whoever gets plugged in there just holds his own and the other guys (particularly Pudge, Lee, and Encarnacion) make up the difference.
August 31, 200323 yr My preference is probably Conine, but can he still play LF? Does he still move well enough? From what i see on ESPN he has done solid at the most... I remeber him being in a top 10 play...
August 31, 200323 yr Conine made top ten when he brought back a homer in LF at Camden Yards earlier this season. He still has the glove in LF and the bat at the plate.
August 31, 200323 yr Author Reggie Sanders has been claimed off waivers by the Dodgers, and the Pirates have until midnight tonight to work out a trade or recall the waivers. Pirates GM Dave Littlefield did not confirm or deny the waiver claim or even if Sanders had been placed on waivers. Sanders' value will take a big hit if he goes to LA due to Dodger Stadium and a crowded outfield that would have to find time for him, Jeromy Burnitz, Shawn Green, Dave Roberts, and Rickey Henderson. c/o rotoworld.com With already 4OF's it looks like the Dodgers did do this with the intent to block those ahead of them in the WC. Can he pass back through today if a deal doesnt go through? Even if they are allowed to do that the dodgers will probably block ita gain.
August 31, 200323 yr Author Also this from the Herald: BORLAND'S BAD NEWS It's looking less likely right-handed reliever Toby Borland will be able to pitch again this season. Borland not only underwent an appendectomy in May to put him on the disabled list, but he said he has an elbow spur that could require surgery. ''That's the decision I've got to make,'' said Borland, who is continuing to feel discomfort in his bullpen sessions. Under a best-case scenario, Borland said he could be ready to pitch by mid-September. ''It's just frustrating, a freak thing like an appendix rupture and then to try to rush myself back and hurt my elbow,'' Borland said. *Im not sure he would've been on the roster anyway
August 31, 200323 yr Man watch now beinfest won't even make a move watch. Didn't you just guarantee The Marlins were going to get Conine? :unsure :
August 31, 200323 yr Author Didn't you just guarantee The Marlins were going to get Conine? :unsure : tehe. sometimes EVEN the oracle makes mistakes. :plain
August 31, 200323 yr "IF" Were gonna get someone it will be conine or stairs most probably,"BUT"i rather see conine here and we will probably see him tommorow in a marlins uni!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
August 31, 200323 yr Maybe we can put pudge to play outfield or third and put redmond to catch(i'm not crazy).
August 31, 200323 yr Maybe we can put pudge to play outfield or third and put redmond to catch(i'm not crazy). Since when has Pudge practiced in the outfield? Yeah I heard Mike Hampton might play first seeing that The Braves could use his bat. You don't just stick someone in a position without at least trying him out there and working him in in ST games.
August 31, 200323 yr Maybe we can put pudge to play outfield or third and put redmond to catch(i'm not crazy). not a bad idea if we want to preserve our bench to the max.

It isn't a big move for anyone to go to the Outfield, it is the easiest position to adapt to.
August 31, 200323 yr Well i'm leaving now i gotta go to church, then to eat, then to the movies,so i probably won't be back till around 6:00pm,so good luck on getting conine and good luck marlins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
August 31, 200323 yr Pudge has the arm and the glove. It isn't a big move for anyone to go to the Outfield, it is the easiest position to adapt to. If you replace anyone for Cabs your losing that glove in Left and his arm(Pudge does have an arm but it's unproven in left) while if you if platoon in at third, you keep Cabs glove out there and you don't have players out of pos. Putting Pudge in Left seems more like a video game strategy then a real life one...

With no practice whatsoever. Judging flyballs from LF is nowhere near catching a popup with a catcher's mitt from behind the plate.
August 31, 200323 yr I would move Cabs to 3rd and put Banks at LF. Thats whats going to happen today if we dont make a move but we will aquire a Left Fielder sometime soon.
