Monday Hill said the Reds had sought permission to speak with him, but he told them he was happy in his current post and looked forward to building another championship club with the Marlins. While he is not among the Reds' initial list of seven candidates, many expect the Marlins' vice president of player personnel, Dan Jennings, to interview for the position. The Marlins would not reveal whether the Reds have sought permission to speak with him.

February 3, 200620 yr I thought this was going to be about Perry Hill. Good to see Mike Hill's attitude, after hearing his dedication to the organization, I could honestly care less in Beinfest takes the Nats job.

Hill is an up and coming name in GM talks and will get another opportunity elsewhere at some point. Especially if the Marlins do well in a lot of these player acquisitions, which will look great for all the guys in the front office. The Reds team is a mess. The team is horrible, they play in a terrible ballpark, and they don't have a strong farm system. It'll take years to fix them, and with baseball's win fast philosophy, he'll be fired before he turns the club around (see paul depodesta) even if he succesfully rebuilds the farm system into the best in baseball. Very attractive positions in Chicago and Seattle will probably be avaliable in the offseason.... lesser ones also, perphaps Pittsburgh, Detroit, Colorado, Kansas City, maybe Houston if they absolutely bomb, maybe CASHMAN when the Yankees finish 3rd this year cause they have no pitching, and even the Marlins (new town or stadium = awesome job) if Beinfest leaves to go to Washington. I don't see this as a chance of a lifetime. I see a lot better jobs avaliable in October.

He (Hill) and Loria are seemingly very close. Most likely, Hill's been assured he's first in line for the G.M. spot, and that Beinfest will be allowed to interview elsewhere. I'm not saying Beinfest's departure is imminent, but I don't think the Marlins are going to fight to keep Beinfest around if another team wants to interview him.
February 3, 200620 yr I assure yall if he a chance to interview for a POSSIBLE once in a liftetime gig as a GM and turned it down, then he has another card in his deck. Seems like a gutsy move, but im sure he has his reasons. What does that say about the reds and marlins?
