Homestead as well

I believe the City of Miami does want the Marlins. However they are not going to give the bank away either. I believe Miami did not want to be another victim of whats happening at the performing arts center. Miami Dade is the victim of that mess. The City of Miami could not get any real guarantees from the Marlins that they would be responsible for any cost over runs.

The City of Miami doesn't mind giving the bank away -- as long as it's going to "one of their boys".

:thumbup :mischief

I had to drive to Kendall today and that was long enough. A stadium in North Dade allows someone in my area to go games pretty much whenever they want. Doubling the drive time would make it hard to go to games on a regular basis.

Why dont we just build a stadium on the southern tip of Key West?

This way we can completely alienate all the fans who live north of the Dade County line. :banghead

according to Samson...there isn't a great location for baseball. The current location obviously is not working.

So true. It's not like our attendace is gonna drop drastically. It's bad enough already. If it wasn't so damn bad we wouldn't even be having this conversation. Don't you think there are people down here who actually want to go watch the Marlins but don't want to drive way the f*** up there? Who cares if we lose 2 or 3 fans from up there as long as we gain 3 or 4 down here.

I live in Polk County, and there's no way i'd be able to do the carpools that we've done to South Florida to see games and be back in the same day. It's already hard enough.

Yeah. The current location works great for football when you only have to plan for 8 games and maybe a few more if lucky enough to make the palyoffs but 40-80 games for baseball and the only option is by car to get to the games. The current location was always favorable and catered to the northern fans. I hope that when the time comes and by some miracle we get a permanent stadium that it can cater to all the fans.

Yeah, all those GREAT Miami fans really came out and supported the Heat in record numbers during those horrible years... oh wait, no they didn't.

The notion that more fans will go to Marlins games if there is a stadium in Miami or South Miami is simply ridiculous and flat out not true, and this has already been proven by the Heat.

Homestead is an awful location and will single handedly alienate everyone in not only Palm Beach, but Broward county as well. The Marlins can afford to go a little south and lose their Palm Beach County fan base, but going so far south that not even Broward fans will go to games is simply suicide.

accord, you have to agree that the current location is not working.

The same could be said about the Panthers and I go to plenty of games. It gets me so steamed up when I see all those empty seats. They actually had packed houses in the pink elephant when it was much accessible.

Hell Homestead alienates a lot of Miami-Dade County.

Homestead as of right now is Plan ZZZ behind New Orleans and Baton Rouge. Sure the Marlins get a stadium but they lose a huge majority of the fan base and don't replace it with much.

It obviously didnt work up North....Now all of you "north of DADE" people are crying b/c you may not be able to make it to your 6 games a year. Now you will know how it feels to lose a team that has been asking for support from NORTH and SOUTH fans. the North side is now crying b/c it may be moving south, or REALLY NORTH. You guys dropped the ball. Us SOUTH FANS did it for 12 years. Either you are fans or not. Dont cry b/c the stadium is going to move 50 miles south. You guys could afford the gas.

Wow. Ok. I guess you've been holding anger in for years. Did you now most of the Marlins season ticket holders are fans from Broward and Palm Beach. Guess you didn't. Thoughs are the fans that pay to see the Marlins play 82 games a year. Even if they don't go the money they payed goes to the team. You would be losing I'd say about 70% to 75% or the fans if you moved the team to Homestead because it would just be to far for some N. Miami-Dade fans to go to.

The south fans haven't done sh*t in 12 years for this franchise because they can't get to the games. You have no idea what you're talking about. Homestead would kill this franchise at the gates.

Nowhere in South Florida would a team that plays in a football stadium under the constant threat of rain, 90 degree weather, and 90% humidity would this team draw. Not in Homestead, downtown Miami, Hialeah, Plam Beach, Ft. Lauderdale, Key West or Jupiter.

Festa, I am on your side of this subject because I would love for them to play period. It would be great in Hialeah at the Horse track but thats me because I am selfish in that way. I think many people would love a stadium closer to their home. In reality, even if they were to put a dome on the current location it would still not work. Samson has said that the number one beef with the fans has always been traffic in getting to the games. Sure I don't think it will happen in Homestead but there are a lot of fans down their who would love to go these games. People you would term the average fan. Do you blame them for not being able to go to more games. By the way Happy birthday once again.

Certainly not, you can't blame them for not showing up. I've made the case several times that a location further south or more accessible to everyone south of Doral would boost attendance because of the huge latino population.

:mischief for the Happy Birthday.

From what I heard, Andrew destroyed the Indians new complex and they were without a home for Spring Training, they asked their home in Winter Haven for a 1 or 2 year deal and they said NO.. so the Indians signed a new 10 year lease in 1992.

There was a rumor that the Indians were thinking of moving to Ft. Myers to share with the Sox or Twins or Port Charlotte where the Rangers used to train, but they opted to stay in Winter Haven.

I still think the Marlins should build their stadium near Okeechobee...

that way fans from Ft. Myers could attend games regularly too !
