February 7, 200620 yr As for the two Alex Gonzalezes, the one who still is a shortstop has taken his physical and has all but signed with the Red Sox to replace Edgar Renteria . The catch is Gonzalez will get $3 million if he's still on the roster by Opening Day, but $500,000 if he's released by mid-March -- which means that if the Red Sox find someone better, they have a relatively inexpensive out. That's probably not going to happen, though. :mischief2 Source
February 7, 200620 yr Was the market for Alex that thin that he had to take such a rough deal overall?
February 7, 200620 yr Alex has looked outstanding in the Serie del Caribe. Hitting somewhere around 400 and the arm is back to it's old self.
February 7, 200620 yr For Alex to sign a clause like that just shows how little interest there has been in him this off-season. It's best that he signed a 1-year deal. Another successful, healthy year for him and he'll get a nice multi-year contract next off-season.
February 7, 200620 yr Who else do the Red Sox think they can get? Ever heard of a trade? I do think the Sox are very content with A-Gon being our starting shortstop throughout the season.
February 7, 200620 yr A.Gon will do fine in boston..........Acually my opinion is he'll be there for a while
February 7, 200620 yr Who else do the Red Sox think they can get? Ever heard of a trade? I do think the Sox are very content with A-Gon being our starting shortstop throughout the season. Boston has a very nice defensive infield now, with the pitchers they have and the power they still have, I like Boston a million times more then I like the Yankees in AL. EAST...though everyone tries to tell me diffrent

They're both black holes offensively and defense is extremely overrated.

February 7, 200620 yr So if he gets released for 500k, then does he sign somewhere else for like 2 mil? COME HOME

They're both black holes offensively and defense is extremely overrated. Between those two, Pierre and LoDuca its amazing we had any offense last year. That had to be the easiest 4 outs in baseball and completely killed the two monster seasons Delgado and Miguel put up last year. When susposedly great defense is matched with patheticly anemic offense it is overrated. I bet Lowell doesn't get 60 starts. I will be stunned if any has any semblance of a comeback in Boston. For whatever reason, he fell farther and faster than any player i can remember in the last 10 years.
February 8, 200620 yr Author For whatever reason, he fell farther and faster than any player i can remember in the last 10 years. Sammy Sosa?

February 8, 200620 yr For whatever reason, he fell farther and faster than any player i can remember in the last 10 years. Sammy Sosa? It's Sammy Sosa* He should 'Prince-It'. Create some symbol for his name, say: And then go by The Baseball Player Formally Known As Sammy Sosa. May make him more marketable to teams for the upcoming season. The Nationals may have hit a marketing goldmine!
February 8, 200620 yr For whatever reason, he fell farther and faster than any player i can remember in the last 10 years. Sammy Sosa? Yeah good point. Although Sammy's decline was more slow and subtle until the last final dropoff. Whereas for me, Lowell's 2005 was completely unexpected especially since i didn't even realize how bad his 2nd half of 04' was.

Gonzo has had a -75 FRAA over the past five years meaning he has cost the fish 15 runs a year on the DSide of the ball and a terible offensive player God knows i wouldnt have signed him
February 8, 200620 yr Author Gonzo has had a -75 FRAA over the past five years meaning he has cost the fish 15 runs a year on the DSide of the ball and a terible offensive player God knows i wouldnt have signed him You won't hear me have anything flattering to say about Alex's 2005, or his offensive ability, but he sure as hell didn't cost the Marlins 15 runs a year on the defensive side of the ball. Defensively, I don't think he's as spectacular as some say (honestly, he's had that underrated label for so long he's now probably overrated), but he isn't a defensive liability. Any team looking for a short-stop and doesn't really need offense should be lucky to have him, especially at a relatively cheap one year deal.
February 9, 200620 yr How bad was Lowell's 2nd half with the Fish in 04??? and A-gon is underrated...I think he is a much better player then people make him out to be...If he gets hiss hittin' down consistantly...that boy will be an All-Star
February 9, 200620 yr Author How bad was Lowell's 2nd half with the Fish in 04??? You serious? It was atrocious. Since the all-star break of '04, Lowell has hit 15 homeruns (that's right, 15 in a season and a half), and just in case that's still too confusing, he hit 7 in the second half of '04 and 8 in all of '05. He's clearly in decline. and A-gon is underrated...I think he is a much better player then people make him out to be...If he gets hiss hittin' down consistantly...that boy will be an All-Star That's been the same old story for 6 years.

There's a stat to back up anything anyone wants to say these days so it's meaningless. Watching the games would show you he saved the Marlins runs, and not the opposite but people making up new stats are too busy to actually watch the games.
February 9, 200620 yr TSwift dogging a former marlin and current Red Sox player. Shocking. I love how alot of you act like there is no way they can improve next year or play better in a different league, different team, and different stadium. When you guys get done with your crystal ball's send it over here, I'd like to know what is going to be on my test tommorrow.
