February 9, 200620 yr Daivd Vyborny of the Columbus Blue Jackets took a shot off the chin (from Hainsey) and scored. Off his chin. WHAM, BOOM, net. Dude was about seven feet from the goal, too. Not only that, but he leaves with a busted jaw and comes BACK. Hockey players are all-man, I gotta' tell you. The craziest goal I've seen.
February 9, 200620 yr I was watching that game live....I didn't think it was anything spectacular...Hainsey's shot deflected off someone's skate, went up, hit Vyborny in the mouth and went in...flukey, but nothing special. BTW, if you're a Jackets fan, I feel bad for you....not because your team is bad (you actually have tons of good young players with Zherdev, Klesla, Leclaire, Nash, Picard, etc.) but because you have to put up with Jeff Rimer....I had almost forgotten how awful he was. :banghead

February 9, 200620 yr Strader is a ton better than Rimer. Strader is in a whole different league than Rimer.

We got hit with injuries early and that cost us. Since November, I think, we're one of the top 10 teams in the league. The team is just young at this point, I think next year if there aren't playoff implications you have to fire somebody, though. Because this team will be too good, if everything goes smoothly this offseason, to not make them.
February 9, 200620 yr Hockey is the best live sport to watch. ...other than College Football. Anyways, the Wings have another huge one tonight in Nashville. They need to extend that lead in the standings after their dominant win last night.
February 9, 200620 yr I hate Dave Strader, I wish Jiggs MacDonald or whatever his name is who substituted for Strader when he was doing the NBC games could take over full time.

He puts you to sleep and misses so many calls because he goes off topic for long periods of time -- TERRIBLE. I'd say he's the worst, but the Coyotes announcer (forgot his name) takes that honor. Because this team will be too good, if everything goes smoothly this offseason, to not make them. Read my post again, I'm not ripping the Jackets, they have a solid future. I like alot of their youth, and some of the additions they made, especially Foote. Taking on Fedorov's contract was a mistake, but hopefully he helps Zherdev develop -- that kid is damn impressive. I remember watching a Jackets-Hawks game earlier this season where Zherdev went coast to coast with 30 seconds left in the game to score the game tying goal. The Hawks were in a 1-2-2 and Zherdev still was able to stickhandle by every single player, get a good shot off, and put in his own rebound while in midair ala Billy Lindsay in '96. Easily one of the nicest goals I've seen in a LONG time. I hate Dave Strader, I wish Jiggs MacDonald or whatever his name is who substituted for Strader when he was doing the NBC games could take over full time. Why do you hate Strader? I think he's done a fine job -- he's very knowledgeable and objective -- my only complaint is he really has no ties with the Panthers so at times it seems as if he lacked emotion. He has improved in that area, though. I watched the Isles-Pens game this weekend and Strader brought up the Panthers about 5-6 times for no real reason at all. He's very well respected and well liked by most -- he was an announcer for ESPN for a long time and now does national broadcasts on NBC. I enjoy listening to the broadcasts now, unlike with Rimer where I felt like sticking a pencil in my ears
February 10, 200620 yr Taking on Fedorov's contract was a mistake, but hopefully he helps Zherdev develop -- that kid is damn impressive. Fedorov has done just that. He's also changed the mindset of the room, improved our power play, our penalty kill, and our even strength play. He is overpaid, yes, but considering the salary cap is going up and we're still going to have the money to acquire another top 2 line type forward, it's not going to be a big deal. His impact goes way beyond his statistics, which are definitely mediocre. It also helps that he finally appears to be close to 100%. But anyway, Zherdev was miserable here. He couldn't learn the language. He had zero friends. Most team insiders said he was going back to Russia when this season ended. Now, he has a mentor, he's learning English, he's happy, and he wants to sign long-term. That in itself makes Fedorov worth every penny. We're 18-13-2 since November 25, which is 7th in the West, and we're 14-6-1 since Christmas, which is tied for 3rd in the West. Fedorov has been a huge part of this and will be a huge part of what will be a playoff team next year. Hard for me to label it a mistake in any way shape or form. We need to finish 17-9-0 to finish .500, I don't think it's out of the question with the way we're playing now. As for Jeff Rimmer. He sucks. Just the fact that he calls the power play the "man-power advantage" makes him a bad hockey announcer. On the other hand, our color guy is awesome, Brian Engblom.
