Cheney Accidentally Shoots Fellow Hunter

 

WASHINGTON - Vice President Dick Cheney accidentally shot and injured a man during a weekend quail hunting trip in Texas, his spokeswoman said Sunday.

 

Harry Whittington, 78, was "alert and doing fine" after Cheney sprayed Whittington with shotgun pellets on Saturday at the Armstrong Ranch in south Texas, said property owner Katharine Armstrong.

 

Armstrong said Cheney turned to shoot a bird and accidentally hit Whittington. She said Whittington was taken to Corpus Christi Memorial Hospital by ambulance.

 

Cheney's spokeswoman, Lea Anne McBride, said the vice president was with Whittington, a lawyer from Austin, Texas, and his wife at the hospital on Sunday afternoon.

Cheney was using bird shot which will esentially rip of a massive hole in someone at close ranges, so if the guy who was shot survived and is in "good condition" then I imagine he was pretty far away.

 

Either way, Dick Cheney violated the final rule of the 4 firearms safety rules that EVERY gun owner has memorized and follows whenever handing firearms.

 

RULE 1: Treat ALL firearms as if they are loaded at all times

RULE 2: Never point the muzzle at someone you are not prepared to destroy

RULE 3: Keep your finger OFF the trigger at all times until you are prepared to shoot

RULE 4: ALWAYS be sure of your target and exactly what is beyond it

 

These rules are posted at every gun range, come with every gun you buy, and are reinforced countless times. Violating any of these rules are inexcusable.

On Fox News they're reading a quote from the guys wife... she said "It broke the skin and knocked him silly, but he was fine" and they said there are medical personnel traveling with the VP at all times so they immediately tended to Whittington. They said Cheney had the bird in his sights and was following it, and it just so happened that Whittington was in the line of fire and "got peppered pretty good."

 

There is no such thing as an accidental shooting, any accidents are a direct result of negligence and in this case Cheney directly violated the 4 rules of firearm safety which every gun owner knows by heart.

This will do wonders for the administration's image overseas, where they're already seen as a bunch of gun-toting cowboys.
